Barrington Village President Travels to Canada to Rally Against Unsafe Railroad Tankers

The same Dot-111 rail tanker that exploded in Quebec last summer, killing dozen, also rolls through Barrington.

Barrington Village President Karen Darch traveled to Quebec, Canada, on Dec. 6, with a coalition of other American rail town leaders to tour the site of July's deadly tanker explosion, reported ABC 7 News.

In a press conference, Darch said she wanted to see the impact the crude oil spill had on the community because the same Dot-111 tankers travel through Barrington, according to ABC 7 News.

The U.S. Department of Transportation has recommended that all tank cars used to carry ethanol and crude oil be reinforced to make them more resistant to punctures if trains derail, according to the Huffington Post.

The DOT could make a decision next year, reported ABC 7 News. The public comment period on the recommendation ended Dec. 5.
