Barrington to Host Emerald Ash Borer Informational Meeting

The public is invited to learn more about the Emerald Ash Borer and how the village plans to fight it.

The tree-killing pest known as the Emerald Ash Borer invaded the village of Barrington in 2010, and now the village is fighting back.

The village invites residents to attend an Emerald Ash Borer informational meeting to learn more about the policy in place to rid the village of the pest. There will also be an expert on hand to answer questions. The meeting will take place Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. at.

“This is really for homeowners who want to come in and learn a little bit more about what steps they might want to consider or where we are with the process at this time,” Village President Karen Darch said.

Some may not realize the full impact the Emerald Ash Borer will have on the community. There are areas in town, including the north side of Fox Point, that have a large concentration of ash trees.

“The parkway [of Fox Point] is really going to be devastated, and I think it’s important to understand how we’re trying to deal with this,” said Trustee Beth Raseman.
