Barrington to Reimburse up to $10,000 for Sewer-Backup Problems

Homeowners who dealt with damage from sanitary sewer backups during two major rain storms in 2013 could collect up to $10,000 through a reimbursement program approved Monday by the Barrington village board, according to the Daily Herald.

Homeowners must provide proof of sanitary sewer backup issues either in the form of receipts, photos or invoices and the money is meant to pay for some of the costs to install older homes with overhead sewers, according to the article.

The Daily Herald reports in exchange for the reimbursement, homeowners are expected to "remove all their homes' connections releasing stormwater into the sanitary sewer."
