Barrington-Area Government Agencies Score Poorly on Transparency Report

Several Barrington-area government agencies received a failing grade for government transparency online from a recent Illinois Policy Institute audit, according to a Daily Herald analysis.

In its audit, the Illinois Policy Institute looked at access to contact information online as well as public meetings, public records, budgets, audits, expenditures, contracts, taxes and more, according to the Illinois Policy Institute website.
The Daily Herald analysis found of the 102 suburban government agencies in the audit, 70 had scores of 60 percent or below. Here's how the Barrington-area agencies fared: 

  • Barrington Hills: 43.6 percent
  • Barrington School District 220: 41.4 percent
  • Barrington: 31.7 percent
  • Barrington Countryside Park District: 23 percent 
  • South Barrington: 22.5 percent
  • South Barrington Park District: 20 percent
  • Barrington Area Public Library District: 15.8 percent
  • Barrington Township: 11.5 percent
  • Barrington Park District: 8.8 percent
The highest scoring government agencies on the list were Hanover Township, Kane County and Lombard who all scored 100 for transparency. The lowest on the list was the Barrington Park District.
