Couple Files Lawsuit Against Forest Preserve for Barrington Hills Estate

The owners of Horizon Farms claim the Forest Preserve of Cook County was in the wrong when it tried to buy the property while the couple fought foreclosure, according to the Daily Herald.

The owners of one the Northwest suburbs largest properties, Horizon Farms in Barrington Hills, has filed a federal lawsuit against the Forest Preserve District of Cook County, claiming the district was in the wrong in trying to buy their property while they fought foreclosure, according to the Daily Herald.

The owners of the 400-acre Barrington Hills estate and horse farm, Meryl Squires Cannon and Richard Kirk Cannon, bought the property in 2006 for $19.3 million and in 2009 and entered foreclsoure proceedings before BMO Harris eventually took ownership of the $14.5 million loan agreement for the property, according to the article.

The lawsuit claims the forest preserve district illegally conspired to pay $14 million for the mortgage loan agreement but a Cook County Forest Preserve spokesman told the Daily Herald the district was simply trying to protect the property from future development.
