“Tonight is a special occasion for two firefighters as they go about their career,” said Fire Chief Jim Arie. “The fire service is rich in tradition. Our traditions are things that have to do with the job, with the career, with the profession and also with the family.”

One of those traditions involves the pinning of the badge onto a new officer by a significant other. The wives of McCrory and Johnson pinned their husband’s badges onto their new uniforms at the meeting, affirming and initiating their career in the fire service. The men were then sworn in by Village Clerk Adam Frazier.

The audience was filled with family members of the officers, beaming with pride for their loved ones. Family is something the fire department takes very seriously, which was acknowledged by Chief Arie during his closing statements.

“To the families, we welcome you into our family and we appreciate you being here and we appreciate you during their careers more than you’ll ever know,” Arie said.
