Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital Center for Cancer Care Earns National Accreditation with Commendation from the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons

 The Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital Center for Cancer Care received a Three-Year Accreditation with Commendation from the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons.  The Good Shepherd Center for Cancer Care received the highest level of recognition for eight evaluation areas: cancer committee attendance, clinical trial accrual, cancer registrar education, public reporting of outcomes, College of American Pathologists protocols, nursing care, abstracting timeliness and submission/accuracy of data.

 

“This recognition is an affirmation of the collaborative work the physicians’, nurses’ and associates’ execute every day on behalf of the patients of the Center for Cancer Care,” said Karen Lambert President at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital.  “Not only was the Center recognized but exceeded all expectations with eight commendable recognition areas really shows the superior care patients receive each and every day at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital.”

To earn voluntary CoC accreditation, a cancer program must meet or exceed 34 CoC quality care standards, be evaluated every three years through a survey process, and maintain levels of excellence in the delivery of comprehensive patient-centered care.  Three-Year Accreditation with Commendation is only awarded to a facility that exceeds standard requirements at the time of its triennial survey.

“The cancer program at Good Shepherd Hospital has always been committed to providing state-of-the-art cancer care in a compassionate environment,” said Michael Soble, MD Cancer Committee Chairman at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital. “To receive a three-year accreditation with commendation acknowledges the dedication of our team to providing outstanding care and support to our cancer patients.”

 

As a CoC-accredited cancer center, the Good Shepherd Center for Cancer Care takes a multidisciplinary approach to treating cancer as a complex group of diseases that requires consultation among surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, diagnostic radiologists, pathologists, and other cancer specialists.  This multidisciplinary partnership results in improved patient care.
