ADVOCATE GOOD SHEPHERD HOSPTIAL FIGHTING CANCER WITH TULIPS

JOIN US: October 28, at 10 a.m., Good Shepherd Hospital along with nine other Advocate Health Care sites will be planting 20,000 tulip bulbs in honor of all whose lives have been touched by cancer.

Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital is taking a bold and beautiful step to help plant the seed that early detection is key to surviving cancer.

On October 28, at 10 a.m., Good Shepherd Hospital along with nine other Advocate Health Care hospital and support center sites will be planting 20,000 tulip bulbs in honor of all whose lives have been touched by cancer.

“This is a living reminder to patients that screening increases the chances of detecting certain cancers early, when they are most curable,” said James Ruffer M.D., radiation/oncologist on staff at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital. “Partnering with our patients is one of the most powerful weapons we have to battle this disease.”

Area residents can join in the tribute by logging onto Advocate’s Facebook page and choosing a tulip bulb to be planted at anyone of the 10 Advocate Health Care locations throughout the region, including Good Shepherd Hospital. And, the public is welcome to attend the special ceremony at Good Shepherd Hospital, 450 W. Highway 22, Barrington on October 28, when the tulip beds will be dedicated.

“We hope this special dedication serves as a powerful, visual symbol of those who have fought a battle against cancer, those who continue to fight, and those who care for them,” said Jim Skogsbergh, president and CEO of Advocate Health Care.  “As the system where more cancer patients in Illinois become cancer survivors, we want to pay tribute to all those who face this disease.”
