In 2011, over 1.6 million new cases of cancer were diagnosed in the United States, according to the American Cancer Society. Although a cancer diagnosis remains a difficult event for anyone to endure, improved medical techniques and treatment have increased cancer survival rates. Today, more patients survive cancer than ever before.

National Cancer Survivors Day is celebrated throughout the world. It is organized by the National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation to recognize cancer survivors and the continuing contributions they make to their communities. It is observed every year on the first Sunday of June, and this will be the 25th annual celebration of life at Good Shepherd Hospital.
