Music Therapy Now Offered at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital

Thanks to the generous financial support of our associates and community leaders, we will offer music therapy to our patients beginning November 29, 2011.

Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital becomes the first hospital in Lake County to hire a music therapist. This will be a shared position with Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. Our music therapist, Brenda Buchanan received her Bachelor of Music and Master of Arts in Music degrees from Eastern Illinois University, her music therapy equivalency at St. Mary of the Woods  College in Terre Haute, Indiana  and completed her music therapy internship at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City. 

Based in our Department for Mission and Spiritual Care, Brenda Buchanan will offer intentional and compassionate use of music to facilitate healing. Her primary focus of care will be our cardiac care patients.

With music therapy, we begin a new chapter in our healing ministry.
