The Risks of Peripheral Artery Disease

Peripheral artery disease, can lead to a stroke, heart attack or leg pain or loss. PAD affects millions of people in the United States, most of whom are not aware they have the disease.

Barrington, Ill.—Cardiologist David Bromet, M.D., presents his lecture “What is Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) and Why is it Important?” at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital on Tuesday, July 19 from 6:30-8 p.m. in the Prairie Room. Good Shepherd is located at 450 West Highway 22 in Barrington.

Peripheral artery disease, if left undetected, can lead to a stroke, heart attack or leg pain or loss. PAD affects millions of people in the United States, most of whom are not aware they have the disease. Dr. Bromet will explain some of the disease’s early warning signs and ways to prevent the disease and reduce its risk. The lecture is part of Good Shepherd’s educational Summer Lecture Series.

“Those living with PAD are at increased risk for a number of other diseases, including gangrene, heart attacks and stroke,” said Dr. Bromet. “Most people with PAD don’t even know they have it. It’s especially important for anyone with risk factors like smoking, advanced age or a history of other conditions like high blood pressure or diabetes to know about PAD and what they can do to prevent it or minimize its damage.”
