Barrington High School Ranks Among Top U.S. Schools

The Washington Post and Newsweek Magazine ranked Barrington High School among the top 2,000 high schools nationwide.

For the eighth time, Barrington High School has been ranked among the best 2,000 public high schools in the nation.

BHS was ranked at number 694 according to the Washington Post and Newsweek Magazine. Only 86 of 782 Illinois high schools were selected to the elite ranking. Barrington High School was the 17th highest ranked school in the state. The top ranking Illinois school was Walter Payton College Prep in Chicago at number 77.

The top high schools list is determined by the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and other college level tests a school gave in 2010 by the number of graduating seniors.

In a district-wide email, Principal Steve McWilliams said these recognitions underscore the positive academic culture and supportive community residents are accustomed to in the Barrington area.
