Barrington High School Students Named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists

The group of high school seniors have the opportunity to win thousands of dollars from the National Merit Scholarship program.

Thirteen seniors have achieved a very high academic honor.

The students have been named semifinalists in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program and how have the opportunity to compete for 8,300 scholarships worth more than $34 million that will be offered next spring.

To be considered for a Merit Scholarship, students must have an outstanding academic record, be endorsed by the high school principal, and earn high SAT scores. The student also must submit a detailed application with the help of a school official that includes the student’s essay and information about their participation and leadership in community and school activities.

Of the 16,000 semifinalists announced, about 15,000 are expected to advance to the finalist level. Winners will be announced beginning in April.
