The Barrington 220 Board of Education and the Barrington Education Association have agreed on a new three-year contract, the school district reports.
The agreement, which offers teachers an average of 3.3 percent increase in pay over the next three years, is retroactive to Aug. 31, 2012. The contract will expire on Aug. 31 of 2015.
“We believe this package exemplifies the significant value placed on our teachers by the Barrington 220 community, which the Board of Education represents,” said Board President Brian Battle in a email sent by the school district.
In a public document shared on District 220’s website, part of the rationale for the pay increase is because District 220 is a unit school district, servicing those in grades pre-K through 12. High school districts that only service grades 9-12, typically pay teachers a higher salary, making it difficult for District 220 to compete.
