Heightened Security at District 220 Schools This Week

All people entering the schools Thursday and Friday should be prepared to wait while each visitor's photo identification is verified.

In light of the tragedy in Newtown, Conn. where 27 people were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School, District 220 is beefing up security.

The district said there are no immediate safety concerns, however the Mayan prediction of the end of the world on Dec. 21 has caused what the district calls unfounded fears and supposed threats.

"Such sensational tales - although unbelievable and unsubstantiated - must be taken seriously when reported. Students who knowingly disrupt the school environment by starting these falsehoods are subject to disciplinary consequences," the email read.
