Planning Stages Begin for School's 150th Anniversary

Committee seeks assistance, contact information on former students.

Rondout School District 72 has begun to plan a special celebration in honor of its 150th anniversary starting with the 2013-14 school year.

The first archival records date back to 1864 when the 60 farm families were served by the school district in its original building at the corner of Old School Road and Bradley Roads. A small committee, The 1864 Schoolhouse Society, has begun working on the yearlong celebration.

Alumni and interested community members are welcome to join the efforts and get involved in planning the festivities as well as assisting with outreach to alumni in the area, in the nation and across the globe.

The Society is currently seeking contact information for former students and friends of Rondout. For more information, contact Julie Stephenson, chairperson of the 1864 Schoolhouse Society at jsteph299@aol.com.

For other questions, contact Dr. Jenny Wojcik, superintendent of Rondout School District 72, at jenny.wojcik@rondoutsd72.org.

Rondout primary students in grades Kindergarten through second will board the Polar Express on December 19. The students will enjoy a virtual reality morning filled with adventures in literacy as they disembark at learning stations for the annual Read-a-Thon. Poetry, creative writing and storytelling will be topped off with hot chocolate as our pajama-clad students enjoy learning on the Polar Express.
