Barrington's Cross Country Teams Finish Season at State Meet

Both Barrington teams finish in top ten for second straight year.

Fillies take 7th at State

While running in the 3A state meet held at Detweiller Park in downstate Peoria, the Fillies managed to secure a 7th place finish behind the same strategy they utilized all year.

“Our strength all season has been our pack,” head coach Debbie Revolta said of how the team runs.

“I thought our team did a nice job on Saturday (Nov. 5),” she went on to say.  “We had a 43 second split, one of our best of the season.”

But despite the strong team run, the Fillies found themselves in the unfortunate situation of chasing all day as they were down early in the meet to first place finisher Winnetka. Barrington finished the state meet with 244 team points and tied with York which was good for seventh place and a state medal.  New Trier impressively had three racers cross the finish line in the top ten on their way to 82 points and a convincing state win.

For the second straight year, Junior Rebecca Batliner led all Barrington runners at the meet.  And although she may not have finished as high as last year, due to an injury plagued season, Batliner placed a very respectable 36th place (17:43) and still set her season's best time at the meet.

Also finishing with her best time of the season was sophomore Cary Reynolds (48th 17:56) who finished before runner’s from last year’s 8th place team, junior Rachael Simon (74th at 18:15), senior Caroline Carley (86th at 18:25-her season's best run) and fellow senior Ella Tracy (88th at 18:26).

“We had four girls run their best time of the season and the others were just off a little bit,” Revolta said.  “All in all, it was a good meet for us.”

It must be the running at the now familiar Detweiller because Simon shaved 10 seconds from her three mile time from last year's state meet while Carley found 11 seconds on the course.

Seniors Lauren Herrmann (177th at 19:18-tied her ) and Alexa Argianas (108that 18:36) also ran in the state race.  Argianas, who also took the opportunity at the state meet to post her best time of the season, finished as Barrington's sixth runner and the tie breaker that pushed Barrington past York when both teams were deadlocked at 244 points.

Broncos have repeat performance at State

On paper, this year’s eighth place at the 3A state meet in Detweiller Park has striking similarities to last year’s 8th place team.  There was a top-ten finish from senior Erik Peterson and strong runs from Eiring (freshman Konrad, not Karl who graduated last year) and senior Nolan Wojtowicz to help secure the finish.

But that is where the similarities end as the Broncos scored 295 team points, good for an eighth place finish at the 3A state meet in Peoria held on Saturday, Nov. 5.

With a spate of MSL teams finishing in the top ten, it was Palatine (114 points) being crowned as this year’s champs with Buffalo Grove in fifth (191 points) and sixth place Mount Prospect (242 points) all finishing ahead of Barrington.

Peterson’s 8thplace finish overall (14:36) helped lead the Broncos with junior Ryan Burgoon (23rd at 14:57) following behind moments later.

The only other senior on the team, Nolan Wojtowicz (82nd at 15:28) ran a very similar race than his 2010 state meet but was a second faster which meant even more valuable points for the Broncos this year.

Junior Mike Rappleye (113th 15:40) and a strong run from freshman Konrad Eiring gave Barrington the final points needed to overtake St. Charles North.  Barrington would end just five points ahead of the North Stars who finished in ninth place.

Sophomore Adam Phillips (158th at 16:01) and junior Ryan Skelly (137that 16:06) were the other Barrington runner at the 2011 3A state meet but didn’t factor in the results.
