Going…Going…Sold!

Bronco Baseball charity auction has steals available.

Despite some early season struggles on the field, Broncos’ baseball, and the field they play on, can be big winners thanks to the first annual Bronco Baseball Charity Auction and Dinner (sponsored by Bronco Baseball Boosters Club) hosted at Grille 111 on Saturday, April 16 at 6:30 p.m.

“We have some good fields to play on and are very fortunate, but there are some improvements needed,” Barrington’s baseball coach Jim Hawrysko said.  “The fences are more than 25 years old and the cages are in need of updating too.”

“The proceeds will be used to upgrade all the fields used by the Barrington Baseball program,” said Barrington Bronco Booster Club president and founder Dan McDonnell.  “This includes new batting cages, fencing around the field, dugout renovations, and so much more.”

The newly formed Barrington Bronco Booster Club is spearheading the charity auction, in conjunction with the generosity of 111 Grille to host the gala, and have planned an exciting night.  Not only is there fine dining, but there is also a silent auction, so no need for those fancy signals that can only be seen in baseball games and auctions.

“Steve Peterson, the owner of 111 Grille and former Barrington baseball player, has been generous to help host this event at one of Barrington’s most popular dining establishments,” McDonnell said of the event.  “We have more than 30 auction items that have been donated and the silent auction will be the highlight of the night.”

“There are Cub tickets, golf packages, a signed jersey from Cub shortstop Starlin Castro and so much more,” McDonnell went on to say of the auction dubbed ‘Bidding on the Broncos.’  “In fact, some of our auction items are unique ways for future players to connect with our current players and coaches. We have packages which feature participation at home games as batboys or batgirls, team autographed balls, throwing out the first pitch, etc.”

This event, which is almost sold out, is also a great way for past, present and future players, parents and alum to support Barrington baseball all while having a great time and meal.

“The support from the community has been fantastic, and we have had over one hundred people commit to attend,” McDonnell said of the overwhelming response early on.  “But there are a few more tickets still available for the event.”

And if someone is unable to attend this great event, they can still bid on the many great items, or gift ideas available, via the internet.

”Anyone can bid for any of these items up until 8:30 pm on Saturday, April 16,” McDonnell said of the fundraising auction that was open to all.  “We just want to be able to reach out to the community and be able to get everyone involved, including the parents of current, former and future players.”
