The Barrington Redwings Squirt AA Hockey Team has another name to go by this year—President’s Cup Champions of the Northern Illinois Hockey League.
The team shut-down the St. Jude Knights by a score of 8-0 to earn the championship title and were presented with the coveted gold banner.
The Redwings finished their regular season with nine straight wins and a record of 13-2-1 to clinch first place in their division.
“Most of these kids learned to skate at Barrington and have been skating together since they were 5 and 6 years old,” Redwings Hockey director Rob Hutson said. “There is nothing more rewarding than to see this same group of kids that I remember just starting out in our Learn to Skate and Mite program to continue on with the program and find such success.”
The team hopes to continue their success through the playoffs, which begin March 9.
“Back in September the boys set a goal, committed to it, worked hard and realized it,” Redwings Head Coach Larry Bellar said. “This is a group of men with a maturity well beyond their years and I couldn’t be more proud of them if they were my own.”
