Bob Lee Takes off on Ride for 3 Reasons

Bob Lee will cycle from Vancouver to Tijuana Mexico, then cross the finish line in San Diego.

Barrington resident Bob Lee is taking off on an incredible journey today.

Lee is riding with a purpose. His goal has to been raising money for three charities: ALS Les Turner Foundation, The American Cancer Society and Hospice. He's already raised more than $447,000 with a goal of $1,000,000.

This is Lee's third Ride for 3 Reasons. The adventure began in 2001 when he rode across the southern part of the country from San Diego, Calif. to Jacksonville, Fla. Six years later, he got back on the bike and rode from Jacksonville, Fla., up the east coast to Bar Harbor, Maine, and across the northern border to Anacortes, Wash. With the completion of his third ride, Lee will have cycled 12,000 miles across the entire perimeter of America.

In a recent blog entry, Lee writes that he's dedicating this ride to his wife, Anne, who he says is the wind beneath his wings.

This weekend, the community gathered at for a send-off party for Lee. Take a look at some of the photos from that event to the right of this article.
