UPDATE: 36 Cannabis Plants Found In South Barrington Home

South Barrington police and fire officials responded to a hazmat call on March 25.

UPDATED 4:04 p.m.:

What South Barrington officials thought was a hazmat scare, turned out to be a drug bust on March 25.

Police discovered 36 cannabis plants and several jars of dried cannabis inside of the home at 43 Revere Drive.  Kyle Kaszeynski, 22, now faces felony and misdemeanor charges for growing and possessing the drug.

At 5:18 p.m. on Friday, March 25, officers responded to a burglar alarm at the residence. When they arrived at the scene they found an unsecured door, so they entered the home to investigate.  While looking through the house to make sure there wasn’t anyone inside, officers made a discovery of what they thought could be harmful chemicals and pulled a hazmat box alarm.

"They discovered several bottles of chemicals and other equipment in the basement," Deputy Chief Raymond Cordell said. "Not knowing what that was, the officers called the fire department."

When fire officials arrived, they thought chemicals and other items found in the basement were used for glass blowing and posed no harm to the public. Police later discovered the glass making equipment was also drug related.

“The purpose of the glass blowing equipment was that he [Kaszeynski] was making his own pipes,” Deputy Chief Cordell said.

Kaszeynski is also facing a misdemeanor charge for possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $10,000.
