Top Ten Fugitive Wanted by Algonquin Police, Sheriff Arrested

Brandon A. Williams, 21, was wanted by the Algonquin Police Department for allegedly sexually abusing and choking a girl.

A Milwaukee man wanted on warrant for sexually abusing and choking a juvenile girl was apprehended Wednesday. Brandon A. Williams, 21, 5730 95th St., Milwaukee, was arrested May 22, by Sheriff’s investigators along with the U.S. Marshal Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force from Chicago and Milwaukee, according to McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren. Williams was wanted by Algonquin Police and on the McHenry County Sheriff's Top Ten Fugitive list. He was wanted on a warrant of arrest for one count aggravated criminal sexual abuse and one count of aggravated battery, Nygren stated in a press release.  Williams also was wanted by the Kane County Sheriff’s Office on two separate narcotics arrest warrants, and by the Cook County …

Theft Charge Dropped Against Former BHS Fine Arts Chairperson

The Lake County State's Attorney has dropped charges against Julie Salk.

  The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office dismissed Class 3 felony theft charge against the former chairperson of the Barrington High School’s Fine Arts Department, District 220 informed parents on its website. Julie Salk was charged in November in the disappearance of about $5,000 in funds from the high school and the high school’s Fine Arts Booster Club, which is led by parents, the district said. Salk will be required to provide full restitution, the district said. “The judgment to dismiss this case appropriately belongs to the State's Attorney's Office and not to the school district,” reads a letter from Dr. Tom Leonard. “We respect the expertise and the role properly entrusted to the State's Attorney's office in these decisions. Kids understanding of what is right and wrong and the repricusions that occur after a wrong-decision becomes compelety skewed in kid's minds. Free Child ID Kits For National Missing Children's Day

The Cook County Sheriff's Office will provide the kits this week that will help law police if a child goes missing.

  Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart’s Office will be providing free child identification kits this week allowing parents to store critical identifying information about their children that would assist law enforcement if the child goes missing.  The Sheriff is participating in a national campaign commemorating National Missing Children’s Day (Saturday, May 25), culminating with the ID kit giveaway.  The kits contain supplies to collect DNA and fingerprint samples at home and include space to keep recent photographs. The ability to provide such items to law enforcement during the initial stages of a missing child investigation plays a critical role in expediting the search.  The kits will be available from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday …

Barrington Cops to Crack Down on Seat Belt Violations

The Click It or Ticket campaign is now underway in Illinois.

  The 2013 Click It or Ticket campaign is underway in Illinois. The purpose of the campaign is to help save lives by cracking down on those who do not buckle up through the Memorial Day holiday weekend.  The Barrington Police Department is joining the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), the Illinois State Police (ISP) and over 500 local law enforcement agencies across the state to save more lives by strongly enforcing seat belt laws.  “As we kick-off the busy summer driving season it’s important for everyone to buckle up every trip, every time, day or night – no excuses,” said Assistant Chief Dorn. “Our officers are prepared to ticket anyone who is not wearing a seat belt.”  Provisional numbers show that during the 2012 Memorial …

Man Charged With Sexual Abuse Worked With District 220 Kids

The man charged with sexually molesting a child at Willow Creek Community Church was also employed by the Barrington Park District at the afternoon KEEP Programs.

  The man charged with sexually molesting an 8-year-old boy at Willow Creek Community Church also worked with some District 220 children, the school district reports. Officials say 19-year-old Robert Sobczak of Hoffman Estates was volunteering in a care center for special needs children when the molestation occurred at Willow Creek. District 220 Superintendent Tom Leonard said in a letter to parents and staff that Sobczak was also employed by the Barrington Park District and worked in its morning and afternoon KEEP programs at Arnett C. Lines and Grove Avenue schools. He was recently released from his job at the park district, Leonard said. “There are no indications of any incidents involving our students during his time as a staff member …

Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District Prepares for Split With Village

The district is looking to hire 33 employees and purchase more equipment, the Daily Herald reports.

  The Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District has started the process of finding its own staff and equipment, the Daily Herald reports. The fire district is separating from the village of Barrington’s fire department at the end of 2013 due to disagreements in how much equipment and personnel is needed to operate the district effectively. Currently, the village provides manpower and gear for the district, which provides fire protection to areas surrounding Barrington.  Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District President Tom Rowan told the Daily Herald the district is looking for 33 employees and enough equipment to operate Fire Station 2 and 3, located in Barrington Hills.

Des Plaines Battery, Hazing Charges Filed Against Maine West Soccer Coach A former varsity boys soccer coach and teacher at Maine West High School faces multiple criminal charges related to reports of bullying and hazing, Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez stated on Wednesday. Jury Duty Scam Targets Illinois Residents

Scambook is offering information on avoiding this scam and protecting yourself from scammers.

  Due to the extreme penalties behind missing jury duty, scammers are preying on victims’ fear of legal action by pretending to be “jury duty coordinators” questioning consumers about recent jury duty summons. This scam that dates back to 2005, is circulating again with multiple states being hit including Illinois, Oklahoma, Colorado, Arizona and Oregon. Victims are being confused by scammers who request a Social Security number and date of birth to "verify" their information. With this information, scammers are armed for identity theft, tax fraud, hacking into bank accounts or other illegal purposes.
