Spring-Like Temps for Friday: How Will You Take Advantage?

Technically, it's winter, but the forecast for the next two days is for spring-like temperatures. Get out and do something with it, because the true season will be upon us before you know it!

Barrington residents will enjoy a high of 56 degrees Friday and a high of 50 degrees on Saturday. Better take advantage! According to the forecast from the National Weather Service, there is just a 20 percent chance of rain and areas of fog before 9 a.m. Friday. Otherwise, the forecast is cloudy with a high near 56. Saturday will be be partly sunny, with a high near 50 degrees. By Saturday night, however, there is a 50 percent chance of snow. Here are a few ideas for the mild weather: Get your car washed and waxed in preparation for winter, and ultimately, road salt at Fast Eddies in Barrington.  Enjoy some frozen treats at Kaleidoscoops in Barrington or Bamboo Spoon frozen yogurt in South Barrington.  Take your dog for a nice long walk …

Did you know that the Winnetka Thrift Shop has been selling goods for charity for a century? Or that Goodwill Industries has its own fashion and decor consultants to help people dress up their wardrobe or their home? Or that the local municipality with the most resale shops per capita is not Chicago? It's Barrington, which has a resale shop for every 1,772 residents.   Those are just a few facts from SecondhandChicago.com, a new website that shines a spotlight on Chicago’s large and growing resale market. Launched in July, the website features regularly generated news on Chicago’s resale scene, a “Shop of the Week” article and a directory with 500 thrift, vintage and upscale resale shops  in Chicago and the surrounding collar counties…

Road Improvement Projects Underway in Barrington

Several roads will get new curbs, storm sewers and asphalt this summer.

Several road improvement projects are on the agenda for the village of Barrington this summer. Crews are already working on several improvement projects along Russell Street between Prairie Avenue and Summit Street. Right now, they are working on storm sewer replacement and curb removal and replacement. Once those projects are completed, the road will be repaved. “The pavement has a bit of a low spot if you approach it from both sides, so water will sit in the road if it’s not drained,” said Greg Summers, Director of Engineering and Building.  The asphalt reconstruction along Russell should remedy the problem, as well as fixing the existing potholes and other road imperfections. Crews are also working on a similar project in the alley …

Broncos Football Team Aims to Win Big Against Wheeling

A preview of week four’s matchup: Barrington at Wheeling.

Hopefully, Barrington coach Joe Sanchez likes juggling. In three games to start the early season, Barrington’s backfield has averaged a staggering 224 yards of rushing with various running backs getting their chances, and the Broncos’ Sanchez knows that with that much production comes at least one issue. “We have three different styles of backs,” Sanchez said after Barrington’s 28-19 victory over Elk Grove. “Our challenge is to get them on the field.” “Chase (Murdock) is a power back with abilities to rip off the big run; Justin (Dragosz) is a slasher and a guy who can easily cut back; and Austin (Schmidt) is a scat back with speed,” Sanchez went on to say. Barrington’s Murdock highlights the running attack with the majority of chances and…
