Barrington 220 Educational Foundation to fund innovative programs through ongoing fundraising efforts.
Each year, the Barrington 220 Educational Foundation approves a list of major projects to fund. These projects are submitted to the Foundation by District 220 administration after seeking ideas from staff. A committee of members of the Foundation board and various community members are charged with making a recommendation for approval to the Trustees. The approved projects for this year are: High School Prototypical Classrooms of the Future: The district has been in discussions with distinguished architect, Amy Yurko, owner of Brain Spaces about classroom concepts which rely on brain research, encourage learning, and provide increased flexibility for collaborative work. Barrington 220 advisory council weekly meetings are open to the public.
Input 220, an advisory council to the Barrington 220 board of education, will meet Monday, April 29, at 7 p.m. The council is studying whether both semesters should align with the winter break and end at winter vacation starting in the 2014-15 school year. At the last meeting, April 25, the council agreed to eliminate some options: One of the options still being considered is the Naperville calendar in which school starts on Aug. 20 in 2014 and ends May 28. In a survey of parents, it was determined that parents, staff and students wanted the start of the school year to be as late in August as possible; parents prefer to end school in June, but teachers and students preferred May. The weekly meetings are open and all documents can be …

We need a change in our Barrington 220 school board. As residents, parents, and taxpayers, I’d like to know that our input is valued. It doesn’t appear to be. Requesting community input, our Barrington 220 Board of Education conducted a survey in 2012. The questions related to issues the community would most prefer regarding several topics. The results- 57% of staff and parents requested the implementation of an all day kindergarten program. Down the list, was realigning the school calendar to allow the high school students to take first semester finals before Christmas break instead if in mid-January. 40% chose this issue as most important. Results are here-http://www.barrington220.org/domain/2367 The district created a panel …

Thanks Melissa! I recall Penny speaking at the candidates' forum how the board is very "forward thinking" and anticipates future needs before many other districts and prepares for them beforehand. So, if Penny is pointing out this legislature (link was right on, thanks), and it is right on target with community and staff desires, why, oh why, is it not the focus if i220? Well, I think I answered …   more ›
