Tower Lakes Drain Partnership Gets $10,000 Grant

Lake County Stormwater Management grant to help educate to improve water quality.

The Lake County Stormwater Management Commission Board awarded a $10,000 grant to Tower Lakes Drain Partnership on Jan. 14. Tower Lakes Drain Partnership, a working group of municipalities, homeowner’s associations, and conservation organizations dedicated to improving local water quality, coordinated by Barrington Area Conservation Trust (BACT) will use this grant to expand education and outreach through workshops, seminars, newsletters, and the use of social media.

Conservation@Home Program in Lake Barrington

Barrington Area Conservation Trust helps homeowners improve the environmental quality and wildlife value of their property.

Barrington Area Conservation Trust (BACT) land protection director Lisa Woolford is holding BACT’s first Conservation@Home program of 2013 on Wednesday, Feb. 27, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Lake Barrington Village Hall, 23860 N. Old Barrington Road. The program will introduce homeowners to ways they can improve the environmental quality and wildlife value of their property. Pizzo & Associates will host a best practices program focusing on shoreline stabilization and buffer development in March.

Groups Unite to Protect Tower Lakes Land

Government and conservation groups joined forces to permanently protect Barclay Woods as a nature preserve.

  In a landmark project, Cuba Township, Village of Tower Lakes, Barrington Area Conservation Trust, and Citizens For Conservation announced that they had cooperated to provide funding to purchase a 15.5-acre parcel, known as Barclay’s Woods in Tower Lakes, and permanently protect it as a nature preserve. The four groups each contributed funds towards the purchase of the property, which was owned by Barrington Bank & Trust. The parcel is located east of Route 59 off Pebble Creek Road in Tower Lakes. It is an oak savanna with 100- to 200-year-old white and red oak trees that contains both a high-quality creek and wetlands that flow into Tower Lakes and Wagner Fen. Barrington Area Conservation Trusts Receives $100,000 Grant

The grant from the Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelly Foundation will be used to hire a Development Director and create a Capital Campaign.

The Barrington Area Conservation Trust announced that it has received a $100,000 two-year grant from the Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation. The funds will be used for the conservation group to hire a Development Director and develop a Capital Campaign to preserve critical land parcels in the Barrington area that are essential to the environmental health of the community.  The program will also fund efforts to increase membership and marketing efforts. “This grant recognizes that the Barrington area has some of the greatest biodiversity in the state, and that our remaining open lands and critical watersheds are important to regional, state and national conservation efforts,” said Karen Yancey, Executive Director. “We appreciate the …

Barrington Area Conservation Trust Completes Conservation on Rare Land

The conservation easement was completed on a rare native gravel hill in Barrington Hills.

  The Barrington Area Conservation Trust announced that it has completed a conservation easement on a rare native gravel hill prairie in Barrington Hills, which will ensure that both the prairie ecosystem and equestrian trails on the property will be preserved in perpetuity.  The private property off Ridge Road is owned by Marius Bialas and Renata Heiberg.
