Broncos Football Aims for the Playoffs in 2011

A preview of Barrington's upcoming football season.

No team earns a playoff spot in the first half of the season. But Barrington head football coach Joe Sanchez knows that if the Broncos expect to make their eighth appearance in the 8A Illinois High School Association playoffs under his tenure, then the team must play well right out of the gate, even if that means on the road. “If you want to win a Mid-Suburban League West Championship or be a championship-caliber team, you have to win on the road, and that is what we plan to do,” the 10-year head coach said. The team's first four games are scheduled on opponents’ turf.  One of the ways the Broncos can make the playoffs is to have a similar start to their 2010 season, which they began by winning their first seven games. Lemke's Buzzer-Beater Tops Barrington

Gators rally from five down with 35 seconds remaining.

"The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat" truly applied Saturday morning in the opening game of the Jacobs Holiday Classic between Crystal Lake South and Barrington. With the Broncos leading by five with just 35 seconds remaining, the Gators' Kevin Rogers made a three-pointer to pull South within two. After a 10-second call gave the ball back to South, Robbie Lemke hit a fade away three-pointer after a wild scramble to give the Gators a 48-47 win. Lemke said the play wasn't designed to put the ball in his hands. "The play was for Kevin (Rogers) to go to the basket," Lemke said. Broncos First Playoff Opponent Announced

The IHSA state football playoffs begin on Friday, Oct. 29.

After a great regular season, the Barrington Broncos football team will advance to the 2010 8A Illinois High School Association state playoffs on Friday, Oct. 29.   The Broncos, seeded number six (7-2, 3-2 in the Mid-Suburban League West) will take on the number 11 seeded Glenbrook South Titans (5-4, 3-2 in the Central Suburban South Conference).   For more information on Friday's game, check back to Barrington Patch this week.

Barrington Football Coach Joe Sanchez Receives Big Honor

Coach Joe Sanchez is named Coach of the Week by the Chicago Bears.

Barrington Broncos football coach Joe Sanchez was picked by the Chicago Bears as their High School Coach of the Week.   Because of the award, the Barrington Broncos football program will receive a $1,500 donation from the Bears and Coach Sanchez will receive a certificate commemorating the event.  In addition, Coach Sanchez be part of the on-the-field ceremony during the Patriots-Bears game scheduled for December 12.  He will also have a chance to speak with Bears coach Lovie Smith and attend a practice.   At (6-0, 2-0) the Broncos are off to their best start since 2003 (started 8-0) and have had a remarkable turn around over last year's disappointing 3-6 finish.  Leading the MSL West as the only undefeated team, and ranked 6th in the …
