Dave Dorn to Replace Retiring Chief Libit

Barrington Police Chief Jerry Libit retires at the end of the month; Assistant Chief Dave Dorn to lead department.

Barrington Police Chief Jerry Libit was honored for his 32 years of service with the Barrington Police Department, Monday night.  Libit will retire at the end of the month. He has been with the village since 1981 when he started as a patrol officer. He has been chief since 2009.  Village President Karen Darch honored Libit with a proclamation noting his loyalty and dedication and wishing him a healthy and happy retirement.  Assistant Police Chief Dave Dorn will take over leadership of the Barrington Police Department.

Cleaning Woman Charged with Felony for Stealing Jewelry

Barrington police arrest a woman for taking jewelry from homeowner.

  Izabela A. Gierczak, 26, of 4336 N. Austin Ave., Chicago, was arrested and charged with a Class 3 felony theft, $500 to $10,000, for taking jewelry from a house where she was cleaning in Barrington, according to Assistant Police Chief Dave Dorn. Dorn said the theft occurred in October, and the arrest was on March 8. He said Gierczak was in custody at Lake County Jail on similar charges, for theft that occured in Highland Park.

Barrington Police Tell How Train Accident Occurred

Assistant Police Chief says witnesses and residents were helpful.

  Barrington Police investigations confirm that 11-year-old Dominic Szymanski was hit by an incoming train, shortly after an outbound train crossed Rte. 59.  “It looks like he was walking on Rte. 59 and proceeded to wait for the train that was outbound. As it ended outbound on the south side of the tracks, he proceeded to walk north where there was an express train inbound,” said Assistant Police Chief Dave Dorn.  Dorn said Barrington police officers spoke to witnesses at the scene as well as to Dominic. Dorn said it is unknown whether the outbound train obscured the child’s view of the incoming train. He said there was no problem with the safety systems at the crossing. “Everything was functioning. Barrington Police to Crackdown on Drunk Drivers on St. Pat's Weekend

Police officers take part in Drive Sober of Get Pulled Over/Click it of Ticket, starting today, March 13.

  The Barrington Police Department today announced it will take part in the statewide Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over/Click It or Ticket crackdown by conducting special patrols during this St. Patrick’s Day holiday period to curtail impaired drivers and late-night safety belt law violators. “Too often, St. Patrick’s Day can be a deadly and dangerous time on our roadways because of impaired driving,” said police Chief Jerry Libit. “That is why starting today and running through March 17th, we will be working overtime with increased saturation patrols to catch and arrest anyone who is driving while impaired or unbuckled.” Chief Libit said that always designating a sober driver and not letting friends drive impaired are just two simple steps …

Barrington Traffic Stop Leads to Heroin Possession Arrest

Palatine man charged with felony controlled substance possession.

  Barrington police discovered a controlled substance in the vehicle of a Palatine man during a traffic stop on Feb. 9, according to police reports. Kunal K. Vashi, 27, of 440 W. Mahogany Ct., #602, Palatine, was stopped for improper lane usage at 860 S. Northwest Highway. During the traffic stop police discovered a controlled substance, suspected to be heroin in the vehicle, according to Assistant Police Chef Dave Dorn.  The substance tested positive for heroin in field tests, Dorn said. Vashi was charged with possession of a controlled substance, driving on a suspended license, improper lane usage and no insurance. Free Child Seat Safety Checks in Barrington

The Barrington Police Department will hold "National Seat Check Saturday" on Sept. 22.

  Barrington Police Department today announced it will conduct a “National Seat Check Saturday” event on September 22, 2012 at the Barrington Police Department, 400 N. Northwest Highway, Barrington, IL. Certified child passenger safety technicians will be on hand from 10 am – 1 pm to check car seats for proper installation and advise parents, grandparents, and caregivers how to choose the right car seats and install them properly in their vehicles. The event, part of Barrington’s participation in National Child Passenger Safety Week (September 16-22, 2012), is free to the public. Fire and Police Officials Honored on 9/11

The Barrington Noon Rotary Club held a special luncheon for the Barrington police officers and fire fighters at the Public Safety Building.

Fire and police officials in Barrington were honored today by community members and the Barrington Noon Rotary Club.  The event was held in conjunction with the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.  “Fire and police officials risk their personal safety every day on behalf of Barrington-area residents,” said Joe Kelsch Sr., president of the Noon Rotary Club. “Our club adheres to the Rotary motto of ‘Service above Self,’ which also characterizes these brave men and women who selflessly protect our communities. The Barrington Police Department announced it's "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over/ Click It or Ticket" campaign.

The Barrington Police Department today announced its late‐night plans for the 2012 Labor Day “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over/Click It or Ticket” crackdown. The intensified enforcement effort against impaired drivers and seat belt law violators underscores the disproportionate number of traffic deaths involving alcohol and unbelted motorists. The stepped‐up enforcement will begin August 17 and run through Labor Day, Sept. 3. Enforcement efforts will concentrate on the deadly nighttime hours. According to data from the Illinois Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the midnight to 3 a.m. timeframe is the deadliest time on Illinois roadways. Night Out Against Crime, Public Safety Cruise Night Tonight

Although National Night Out Against Crime is held on Aug. 7 this year, the Barrington Police Department is doing something a little bit different. Barrington’s Night Out Against Crime will be held Aug. 2 and will be combined with the Public Safety Cruise Night. Police Department Executive Assistant Jennifer Herzfeldt said the decision to combine the two events is something new this year. “We weren’t reaching the right crowd doing it at Citizens Park,” Herzfeldt said. “Cruise Nights are such a family oriented event, there’s kids of all ages there. Last year, Night Out was cut short because of the weather. We took what was left and brought it to Public Safety Cruise Night.” This year’s event has a lot to offer everyone in attendance. There …

Barrington Swears In New Police Officers

Two officers were welcomed to the force at at the village board meeting.

Village President Karen Darch considered it a special Barrington board meeting, Jan. 9, as two officers were ceremoniously sworn into service by Police Chief Jerry Libit. Garrett Oberkircher and Christopher Tatman have been with the department for a few months and have completed police academy training and are currently in field training, said Libit.  Village Manager Jeff Lawler noted that Oberkircher had the highest score in his class at the police academy. Also at the meeting, Lawler congratulated several employees for their years of service:
