Former Major League All Star Returns to Barrington to Honor Coaches

Dan Wilson chosen as keynote speaker for Barrington High School (BHS) Baseball Booster Club Banquet.

Seattle Mariners Hall of Famer and Barrington High School Graduate (’87) Dan Wilson will be the keynote speaker at the Barrington High School (BHS) Baseball Booster Club Banquet March 2, 2013. Wilson enjoyed a 19-year major league career as one of the game’s outstanding catchers including an appearance in the 1996 All Star Game. He was 23 years old when he broke into the big leagues on Sept. 7, 1992, with the Cincinnati Reds. He joined the Mariners in 1994 and retired from the Seattle team in 2005. At BHS, Dan was a four-year BHS varsity player from 1984-1987 and still holds the school’s record for most pitching wins, shut outs and strikeouts. Pro Baseball Pick 'Em Contest Winner Announced

Patch user "mp" guessed that the teams would combined for 33 runs, two fewer than the actual total of 35.

Editor's note: Due to an oversight, the winner of this contest was incorrectly announced on Tuesday. We sincerely regret the error. It shouldn’t be surprising that most entrants in Patch’s Pro Baseball Pick ‘Em Contest did not give the batters enough credit in making their selections. Milwaukee outscored Chicago 18-17 in the three-game series over the weekend, and few participants counted on 35 total runs from the teams battling for last place in the division. By guessing the teams would score 33 runs (Brewers 19, Cubs 14), Patch user "mp" was chosen to win the $100 gift card good for pro baseball apparel. Thanks to everyone who participated. Enjoy the rest of the baseball season!

CONTEST: Guess Scoring Outcome in Milwaukee-Chicago Series to Win $100 Gift Card

Enter your prediction in the Comments section, and don't be afraid to back it up!

Milwaukee’s professional baseball team changed leagues in 1998, creating an immediate rivalry with Chicago’s North Siders and their passionate yet frustrated fan base. Each year Chicago fans pour into Milwaukee’s stadium for games between the teams, while Milwaukee fans simultaneously despise the “flatlanders” yet often covet a trip to their famous West Addison Street address. Patch is giving baseball fans in both regions the opportunity to turn that passion into a prize with our Pro Baseball Pick ‘Em Contest, in advance of the teams’ three-game series in Milwaukee May 11-13. The winner receives a $100 gift card for pro baseball apparel. Here’s how to play: You many enter only once, but are welcome to explain your guess and engage in …

Broncos Win in Pitcher's Duel

Barrington earns key MSL win behind pitcher’s gem.

Following a 1-0 battle with MSL West rival Palatine, head coach Jim Hawrysko was able to joke a bit about his coaching during the game, considering he didn’t feel like he had done much. “There was a lot of coaching there,” said the Bronco coach lightheartedly about watching his pitcher Frank Waliczek’s complete game performance (7 innings with 2 hits and 12 strikeouts). “Frank did a great job and that’s what he has done all year for us,” Hawrysko went on to say of the lefty starter.  “He just knows how to win.” Waliczek, who is committed to Heartland Community College in downstate Bloomington-Normal, and the Broncos (16-8, 7-4) found themselves in a pitching duel with Palatine’s Eric Scheuermann (verbally committed to Bradley) as hits were…

Bears Blast Their Way Past Broncos

Barrington staked to early 6-0 lead, can't hold on against Lake Zurich's four home runs.

The Broncos should have been shocked by the four homerun performance by Lake Zurich and their dramatic 9-8 comeback victory during the opening round of the IHSA 4A playoffs, since the Bears were shocked by the number of long balls hit. “We have never had a power outage like this before,” Lake Zurich junior Sean Eder said after his second home run, a walk-off to win the game. “We usually get good quality hits, but never like this.” “Their home runs weren’t cheap,” Bronco’s coach Jim Hawrysko said.  “They would have been homers at our place too.” Eder’s first home run of the afternoon was a three run blast during the bottom of the second that cut the Bear deficit in half, 6-3. Barrington (7-28) had jumped out to an early lead during an …
