Update: Waukegan Police Officer Found Dead in Antioch Woods

Local media sources are reporting that Sgt. Peter Michaels was found dead.

  Update: 1:25 p.m., Jan. 10 The person found dead in the woods in Antioch this morning was missing Waukegan police officer Sgt. Peter Michaels, according to the Waukegan News- Sun. Michaels, 44, had been missing since Tuesday.  No foul play was suspected, according to the Chicago Tribune.  The search this morning was joined by about 120 community members. Michaels was a resident of Tiffany Farms subdivision in Antioch, according to the News-Sun. 12:50 p.m., Jan. 10 Lake County Sheriff's Office Highway Patrol found a deceased body in a wooded area of north Antioch this morning, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office. Cook County Forest Preserve Police confirm the man found naked in Penny Road Pond near South Barrington Wednesday was murdered.  Authorities tell Patch David P. Campbell, 27, of Waukegan was strangled to death. His body was found partially submerged in the pond located near Old Sutton Road and Penny Road.  Police tell Patch Campbell faced a drug charge in 2008 for alleged possession of 50 grams of cocaine. Campbell also was charged with aggravated fleeing and bodily injury, court records state. The drug charges were dropped and Campbell entered a negotiated plea of guilty on the other charges. He was sentenced to 24 months probation. Campbell's body was discovered by someone walking in the Forest Preserve around 9 a.m on July 6.  Check …

Police: Man Found In Pond Was Strangled

The Cook County Sheriff is investigating the murder of a man found Wednesday in a pond near Barrington.

The man who was found in a pond near Barrington Wednesday was strangled to death, officials said. The Cook County Sheriff's Department identified the man as David P. Campbell of Waukegan. The Cook County Forest Preserve referred inquiries into the homicide to the sheriff's department. A passerby saw Campbell, who is in his late 20s, about 9 a.m. Wednesday as the person was walking near Penny Road Pond on forest preserve property. The body was nude and investigators could not find identification at the scene. Penny Road Pond is located near Old Sutton Road and Penny Road. A spokesperson with the sheriff's department said there were indications that the body had not been in the bond for an extensive period of time. Police said the …
