Barnes & Noble Plans to Close 20 Stores Per Year

Since 2003, the bookstore has closed an average of 15 stores annually.

Barnes & Noble Inc. plans to close 30 percent of its stores, or about 20 stores a year, over the next decade, a top executive with the bookstore told the Wall Street Journal.  Mitchell Klipper, chief executive of Barnes & Noble’s retail group, did not provide a list of retail stores that would be closed so there’s no word yet on the future of the Barnes & Noble in Arlington Heights, Deer Park or Schaumburg.  What do you think of Barnes & Noble closing stores nationwide? Barnes & Noble Card Readers Hacked at Deer Park Store

Hackers stole credit card date from 63 stores around the country by hacking into PIN pads. The Barnes & Nobles in Deer Park and Deerfield were among them.

The Barnes & Noble stores in Deerfield and Deer Park were among 63 stores around the country where credit card data stored on PIN pads was hacked, according to the company.  Barnes & Noble released a list of stores where data was breached on Tuesday; other stores in Illinois include two in Chicago, one in Crystal Lake, one in Evanston and one in West Dundee. The company inspected every PIN pad in the nearly 700 stores nationwide and has discontinued use of all its PIN pads on Sept. 14, according to a press release from the bookseller. Barnes & Noble described the hacking as “a sophisticated criminal effort to steal credit card information, debit card information, and debit card PIN numbers from customers who swiped their cards through PIN …
