First time varsity running back has huge day and helps the Broncos win late.
The name on Barrington's junior running back Justin Dragosz's jersey, one of four specially designed uniforms to support Military Appreciation Night, said, "Commitment." A very fitting word considering that Barrington's coach Joe Sanchez and the Broncos were committed to the run and Dragosz, a first time varsity player, in their 17-10 victory over MSL conference crossover rival Elk Grove. “We are built to run the ball,” Sanchez said of his nearly 200 yards of rushing offense against the Grenadiers. “I had faith in our run game.” And it was this belief in the run game that convinced Sanchez to try a fourth down and inches with just 45 seconds left in the game. “It was six inches and I knew we could get it,” Sanchez said of why he didn’t …

Part two of a multipart series recapping a busy sports session for Barrington during the 2011 spring season.
Boys’ Lacrosse The Broncos, led by junior attacker Austin Rich (39 goals and 38 assists, giving him 77 points for the year), finished with a record of 11-6 (8-2 in conference). Barrington would end its regular season with a loss at Lyons Township (6-2), and then later, in eerie similarities, would suffer the same fate to end its playoff run during the second round of the Illinois High School Lacrosse Association. After the Broncos defeated Evanston 8-5 at Barrington Community Stadium in the first round of the playoffs, making up for an earlier loss to Evanston (7-8), the Broncos were unable to find the goals to rebound against Lyons, too. The Broncos, averaging nine goals a game, were held to just two goals against the Lions’ defense. …

Strong performance from seniors in 4 x 800 earns them a medal at state meet.
Barrington’s coaches had a feeling that the 3,200-meter relay team needed to bring home a win at the IHSA state track meet at Eastern Illinois University. “About 10 minutes before the final’s run, (Barrington track coach) Ty Gorman used one of the available signs to write 7:44.8, so that the (relay team) could see it as they warmed up,” said Todd Kuklinski, Barrington’s head track coach. “We felt that this was the time that they needed to win, and it was as if (Gorman) saw into the future.” Seniors Eric Schneider, Karl Eiring, Pat Managan and junior Erik Peterson comprised the 4x800 relay team, and although they did not hit the number Gorman prophesied, the relay runners could not get much closer – they finished with a time of 7:44.87, …

Barrington loses Regional Championship game to Libertyville 2-1.
The dig is a volleyball technique that the Broncos are good at. Unfortunately, they were not able to dig themselves out of a hole they were in during the crucial third set of their regional championship game against Libertyville and eventually lost 2-1. “I was really proud of them tonight, especially the way they played in that third match,” Barrington’s coach Rob Ridenour said following Barrington’s two sets to one loss to the Wildcats. “We had to ask for a towel (to wipe-up sweat) like four times tonight” Ridenour went on to say. “We were flying all over the place (diving after balls) and you can’t ask for anything more than that.” Playing as the second seed in the Gurnee Sectional, Barrington set-up their Mundelein regional match …

Barrington staked to early 6-0 lead, can't hold on against Lake Zurich's four home runs.
The Broncos should have been shocked by the four homerun performance by Lake Zurich and their dramatic 9-8 comeback victory during the opening round of the IHSA 4A playoffs, since the Bears were shocked by the number of long balls hit. “We have never had a power outage like this before,” Lake Zurich junior Sean Eder said after his second home run, a walk-off to win the game. “We usually get good quality hits, but never like this.” “Their home runs weren’t cheap,” Bronco’s coach Jim Hawrysko said. “They would have been homers at our place too.” Eder’s first home run of the afternoon was a three run blast during the bottom of the second that cut the Bear deficit in half, 6-3. Barrington (7-28) had jumped out to an early lead during an …

Barrington tennis wins sectionals and has two doubles teams heading to state.
After a strong showing at the MSL meet, Barrington’s boys tennis coach John Roncone knew the level of competition for both the singles and doubles matches at the Schaumburg Sectional were going to be tough draws, but he was confident in his players. “I think we will have a couple kids move on to state,” Roncone said prior to the May 20-21 Schaumburg sectional. Roncone not only looks like he can see into the future but appears he will be seeing double at the IHSA State tournament held in Arlington Heights May 26 through the 28. Two Barrington’s doubles teams finish in first and second, helping Barrington (26 points) secure a sectional win over Glenbrook South (25) and Glenbrook North (19). Finishing first at the Schaumburg Sectional for …

Red Raiders gets out to a quick lead over Barrington, but needs final seconds for the 52-50 victory.
Tied with St. Charles North and Crystal Lake South, Barrington's 75 percent free throw average during the tournament was what officially had them secure their pool's bid for the semi-final match. The Broncos convincing 63-30 defeat of Prairie Ridge that had forced the three way tie; but ironically, it was a free throw late that ended the Broncos chance at a dramatic comeback. The Broncos lost 52-50. An injured Barrington (9-5) team, with senior forward and leading scorer Greg Gerrard out with an ankle sprain, limped into their semi-final match-up. The team watched as the Huntley (10-1) Red Raiders started the game powering out to a 22-14 half time lead thanks to a first quarter highlighted by defense that only allowed Barrington two …

The Broncos managed to weather an early offensive surge by Jacobs and overcame a first quarter deficit to beat a wounded Golden Eagles team 61-53.
Barrington traveled to Jacobs High School on Tuesday, Dec. 14 and played a non-conference game against the Golden Eagles. Barrington(6-3) was looking to end the Fox Valley Conference leading Golden Eagles' three game winning streak while adding another quality win to their resume after defeating MSL-W divisional foe Palatine over the weekend. Jacobs (3-2) had a dominate performance to start the game as senior guard Nick Hofman's red hot shooting had him scoring 10 points in the first few minutes of the game, and gave the Golden Eagles a quick 16-8 lead. Hofman ended the night with 10 points. It appeared that the Broncos were having very little success early on stopping the streaking Hofman and may have never had an answer for him this …
