Feb. 5 is National Pancake Day at IHOP restaurants.
Love pancakes? How about FREE pancakes? Today marks National Pancake Day at IHOP Restaurants. Patrons will receive a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes between 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. In exchange for the pancakes, restaurant-goers are asked to consider leaving a donation for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals or other designated local charities. Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago is one of the hospitals that will benefit from donations. National Pancake Day began in 2006 and has raised more than $10 million to support local hositals and charities. La Tea Da, a high tea and fashion show benefiting Emmaus House of Hospitality, a Lake Zurich based organization, which serves families in need, took place at Wynstone Country Club in North Barrington on Sunday. Couture 360, a full service, Lake Zurich spa, headed by owner/stylist, Rose De Paola hosted the event. De Paola, whose organization chooses to annually support a local charitable organization through large events, believes in giving back to her community. “I believe you have to give to get,” she said. This year’s organization is “a terrific cause,” according to De Paola who admires the dedication of the staff who volunteer every Sunday. Impact 100 Chicago awarded a $100,000 grant to a Chicago area nonprofit organization on June 14.
A Chicagoland nonprofit organization has $100,000 in its bank account, thanks to the efforts of a local organization. Impact 100 Chicago was founded in 2010 by Marybeth Lernihan of Barrington. The idea was to get 100 women from across the Chicago area to join the group and donate $1,000 each. This way, the group could award a $100,000 grant to a nonprofit organization of their choosing. “Our goal was to get 100 members, but we ended up surpassing it with 126 members,” said Impact 100 Chicago member Kristy Minor, also of Barrington. The organization received dozens of applications from area nonprofits all hoping to receive the grant money. The Community Church of Barrington held its annual Cookie Walk on Saturday, Dec. 11, and sold all of the cookies in a record time of 1 hour and 20 minutes. Jayne Majzan, the organizer of the event, excitedly reported that this was the biggest cookie walk ever, raising a record $2,800 to go to local Barrington charities. Each one pound box cost $10 and when your number was called, you were free to set out and walk through the line and pick out as many cookies as could fit in your box. Many people had three to four boxes they were filling at the same time. Some of the favorites were traditional sugar cookie cutouts decorated with festive frosting, spritz, mexican crescents, pinwheels and peanut butter cup tarts. Although they waited 45 …

Hospital officials confirm generous donation today.
Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital is announcing a very generous gift from an anonymous donor today. A community member and hospital volunteer has donated a philanthropic gift, valued at $2.1 million. Good Shepherd Public Relations Director Mike Deering is thrilled with the announcement. "We are extraordinarily fortunate and grateful to have supporters and a community that stands by Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital," he said. It was recently confirmed to hospital officials that Good Shepherd was named a beneficiary of a planned gift from the estate of a local family.
