From the Wisconsin border to the south side of Chicago and into the western suburbs, local roads, interstates and highways were closed Thursday because of flooding. Click through the pins above to see which roads in your area — or on your route to and from work today — have been closed due to flooding or have high-standing water. Police are encouraging drivers to avoid roadways with standing water. If you come upon an area with high-standing water or that is closed, add that information to our map by visiting this link. NBC's top-rated summer show will be holding auditions in Chicago at McCormick Place on Jan. 26 and Jan. 27.
Last season, "American's Got Talent" had three unique finalists: A comedian, a family dog act and a one-of-a-kind musical instrument. The winner? A group of dogs that danced, performed jump rope tricks and even some gymnastics. "Chicago is an important city for 'America's Got Talent,'" said senior casting producer Jason Shuler. "We have had several top talent audition at our Chicago open calls. Among them are Chicago group Footworkingz and the piano player from Edon from our most current season." Notable winners who auditioned in Chicago: Neal E. Boyd from season three and Kevin Skinner from season four. The National Weather Service Office in Chicago reports that it has been 323 days since there was at least an inch of snow on the ground in Chicago.
Did you know that as of Jan. 14, it has been 325 days since an an inch or more of snow fell in one calendar day in the Chicago area? And that it has been 323 days, as of Jan. 14, that there has been at least an inch of snow on the ground in Chicagoland? Other than a chance of flurries in our area Wednesday night and a 40 percent chance of snow showers on Jan. 21, it doesn't look like that streak will be broken anytime soon. The National Weather Service Office in Chicago recently released some interesting statistics about the lack of snow and various records that have been broken or are close to being broken. Hoping to grab a ticket for the Obama election night party downtown? You're going to have to work for it. Attendance will be much more limited than the 2008 Grant Park gathering, where tens of thousands of then-presidential candidate Barack Obama supporters filled Chicago's downtown streets. About 10,000 people will be allowed into the Lakeside McCormick Place convention center Nov. 6, the Sun-Times reports. Only campaign volunteers willing to offer up their time toward the effort to get the president reelected will be given entry, according to the Chicago Tribune.
