Reports: Lovie Smith Fired As Chicago Bears Coach

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport is reporting that Chicago Bears Coach Lovie Smith has been fired.

NFL.com is reporting that Chicago Bears Coach Lovie Smith has been fired. The Bears failed to make the playoffs despite starting the season 7-1. The team struggled to a 10-6 finish and lost out on the final playoff spot to the Minnesota Vikings. The Bears have not made the playoffs in five of the last six seasons. Smith did get the Bears to the Super Bowl in 2006. In recent years the Bears offense has been inconsistent, despite trading two first round picks for quarterback Jay Cutler. The Chicago Tribune noted that Smith had gone through four offensive coordinators during his tenure. Smith compiled an 80-63 record as head coach of the Chicago Bears since 2004, Yahoo! POLL: Will The Chicago Bears Win The Super Bowl This Season?

The Chicago Bears kick off their season at noon Sunday, Sept. 9 against the Indianapolis Colts at home in Soldier Field.

Hopes are high as the Chicago Bears kick off their season at noon Sunday, Sept. 9, against the Indianapolis Colts and rookie quarterback Andrew Luck. To put everyone in the football mood, we uploaded a video compiliation of Devin Hester kick returns to this post. Enjoy the most exciting moment in football – for a full 10 minutes! The Bears had a busy offseason adding a playmaker at wide receiver in Brandon Marshall, and depth at runningback and quarterback with free agent signings Michael Bush and Jason Campbell. Rookie wide receiver Alshon Jeffery also looked promising in presseason. But will it be enough? Or will their failure to upgrade the offensive line doom the team to another lackluster season?
