The Elgin man killed in a car crash in Barrington Hills on March 3 was engaged, the Chicago Tribune reports. Ronald Ziolo, 61, was engaged to Mary Matziuw, 44, of Florida. The two were driving home from visiting family in Lake in the Hills when the car they were driving was struck head on by a Chevy Suburban driven by an 18-year-old Barrington Hills man. Ziolo was killed, and Matziuw was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Ziolo is survived by his two sons, Jason and Jonathan Ziolo of Lake in the Hills, and two grandchildren, the newspaper reports. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

A 61-year-old Elgin man is dead after a car crash in Barrington Hills yesterday afternoon, the Chicago Tribune reports. Ronald Ziolo was driving southbound on Route 59, south of Dundee Road when a Barrington Hills 18-year-old driving an SUV hit Ziolo’s car head on. Ziolo’s car was also hit from the rear when the crash happened. The Chicago Tribune reports the teen driver sideswiped another southbound car just before crashing into Ziolo’s vehicle. Four other people were hospitalized as a result of the crash with non-life threatening injuries, the Daily Herald reports. No charges have been filed. An investigation into what happened is still ongoing.

Officials had to remove three people from their vehicles after a head-on crash near Long Grove yesterday morning, the Buffalo Grove Countryside reports. The crash happened at the interesection of OldMcHenry Road and Hillcrest Drive. The victims were taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington with non-life threatening injuries, the newspaper reports.

The 18-year-old Highland Park resident who drove her car into a mother and three children, killing 5-year-old Jaclyn Santos-Sacramento, was cited with a DUI shortly after the crash on Monday, two days before her name was released, according to the Lake County States' Attorney's office. Crystal Lake Police have confirmed that two people were killed in a plane crash near Lake in the Hills Airport Thursday.
Two people were killed Thursday in a plane crash near Lake in the Hills Airport, in Crystal Lake police said. The crash happened around 3:15 p.m. The plane went down in a marsh on the east side of Pyott Road, across the street from the airport, Crystal Lake Deputy Police Chief Gene Lowery said. A witness on the scene said they heard a loud noise and saw the plane make a sharp bank from the south to the north before going down. The witness said that the plane might have lost power. Authorities are not sure if the plane was taking off or landing at the time of the crash. The two occupants have not been identified, but police described them as two men in their 40s and 50s.
