The Barrington Fire Department welcomed two new officers this week. Seth McCrory and Byron Johnson received their badges and were sworn in at the Barrington Board of Trustees meeting Nov. 13. “Tonight is a special occasion for two firefighters as they go about their career,” said Fire Chief Jim Arie. “The fire service is rich in tradition. Our traditions are things that have to do with the job, with the career, with the profession and also with the family.” One of those traditions involves the pinning of the badge onto a new officer by a significant other. Barrington Village Manager Jeff Lawler calls statements made at a recent Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District Board of Trustees meeting "untrue."
The dispute between the village of Barrington and the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District (BCFPD) continues to flare this week. Village Manager Jeff Lawler said many statements made by the BCFPD Trustees at Monday’s board meeting were simply untrue. “We can’t have a reasonable discussion if the facts aren’t straight,” Lawler said. Tension between the village and the BCFPD is high due to a dispute that led to the end of their intergovernmental agreement. The BCFPD wants to add an additional water tender to the fleet and hire more staff at the district’s expense. The village says these additional costs are unnecessary. Twelve area fire departments help bring fire under control.
Sunday afternoon’s lightning and thunderstorm ignited a home at 1235 Macalpin Drive in Barrington. According to a news release from the Barrington Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched at 1:13 p.m. for a lightning strike. When the crews arrived on the scene at 1:18 p.m., there was heavy black smoke coming from the roof. The fire department issued a box alarm for additional manpower to fight the fire. Fire departments from Algonquin, Buffalo Grove, Carpentersville, Cary, Crystal Lake, Fox River Grove, Hoffman Estates, Lake Zurich, Palatine, Palatine Rural and Wauconda arrived. Board members voted in a new President on May 16.
The Board of Trustees of the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District (BCFPD) elected a new President for 2011-2012. Thomas P. Rowan was elected to the position at the Board of Trustee’s May 16 meeting. Thomas C. Long was also elected as Treasurer and Walter W. Dalitsch was re-elected as Secretary. Former President Marvin Hill will now serve as Vice President. Biographies of the following board members were provided by Ryan McKeon: Thomas P.
