Ladel, a golden retriever, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Hawthorn Woods has been called to service.
Chicago-area K-9 Comfort Dogs, a ministry from Lutheran Church Charities (LCC), have been aiding in the healing in Newtown, CT, since shortly after the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy occurred. On Jan. 1, Ladel, a Comfort Dog from St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Hawthorn Woods, left with a team of dogs and handlers for Newtown. Ladel was invited to Newtown High School to provide the unconditional love and compassion that define Comfort Dogs. The last months have been busy for Ladel as she recently served in New Jersey after Hurricane Sandy devastated the area. Ladel lives with Senior Pastor Tim Kinne’s family at the parsonage in Mundelein. Deb Kinne, the pastor’s wife and Ladel’s primary handler, said Ladel was the first Comfort Dog …

The following news release was submitted by Friedlander Communications Ltd., the public relations firm representing the Village of North Barrington. The Lake County Board Tuesday (October 9, 2012) passed a resolution by a vote of 23 to 0 to approve a plan for a potential shopping center, local community activity center and offices on the controversial 108.75 acres of land known as the Dimucci Family Property at Rand and Old McHenry roads. Strict requirements were placed on the Dimucci family about what can go onto 53 acres of the land with the remainder to be held forever as open space. It currently is available as farm land. The proposal for rezoning and a Planned Unit Development for the Dimucci property at Old McHenry Road and Rte. 12 will go before the Lake County Board on Oct. 9. The Dimucci family is requesting rezoning and a PUD for a commercial development on the 109-acre Dimucci property, which is at the southeast corner of Route 12 and Old McHenry Road, near Hawthorn Woods. The proposal has gone through an extensive review process throughout the summer, which included numerous public hearings in which residents expressed their concerns over the controversial proposal. After a month extension, public hearings regarding the rezoning of the Dimucci property at Old McHenry Road and Route 12 resumed, Sept. 6. The flavor of the meetings was noticeably changed. The villages of North Barrington and Hawthorn Woods, previously leading the opposition, were no longer fighting the rezoning. However, neighbors of the Dimucci property remained adamantly opposed and vocal in their opposition. The Zoning Board of Appeals hearings are for rezoning the 109- acre site from residential to general commercial and a Planned Unit Development on the site. Lake County Planning, Building and Development announced that the Dimucci property public hearings will be continued until Wednesday, Aug. 29, at Concorde Banquets, 20922 N. Rand Road, Kildeer, at 5 p.m. The Dimucci family is requesting rezoning and a PUD for a commercial development on the 109-acre Dimucci property, which is at the southeast corner of Route 12 and Old McHenry Road, near Hawthorn Woods. The Lake County Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) is scheduled to meet for the second public hearing on rezoning and PUD of the Dimucci property on Rte. 12, on Wednesday, July 25. However, the meeting may be very short as the County will request a postponement until Aug. 15. The majority of the first Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) public hearing on rezoning and a Planned Unit Development, or PUD, for the Dimucci property was devoted to presentations by the petitioner, in a four-hour meeting that drew about 200 residents, July 18. John Dimucci, his family, and attorney Mark Eiden presented their case for commercial rezoning and a PUD on their property. After four hours of debate and discussion, Wednesday, the Lake County Regional Planning Commission (RPC) denied its stamp of approval for plans for a commercial development on the 109-acre Dimucci property, which is at the southeast corner of Route 12 and Old McHenry Road, near Hawthorn Woods.
