How Does Your School Measure Up?

Parents, students and teachers are being asked to take an online survey that will help highlight their particular school's strengths and weaknesses.

Parents, teachers and students are invited to take a statewide survey aimed at identifying strengths and weaknesses at local schools.  The Illinois 5Essentials Survey, run by the State Board of Education (ISBE), opened Feb. 1 and can be taken online through March 31. It focuses on five essential components for school success: effective leaders, collaborative teachers, involved families, supportive environment and ambitious instruction. The survey will also be administered to students in the sixth through 12th grades. Survey results will help Illinois “lead the nation in providing a unique opportunity to deliver more comprehensive and reliable information on how to improve schools that test scores alone simply cannot capture,” according to …

District 220 Schools Named to State Academic Honor Roll

Six Barrington-area elementary schools were given the honor for sustaining high academic performance for three consecutive years.

  Barrington 220 School District has been given high honors by the Illinois State Board of Education this week. The district has six schools named Academic Honor Roll and given the 2012 Academic Excellence Award. Barbara Rose Elementary, Countryside Elementary, Grove Avenue School, Hough Street School, North Barrington Elementary and Roslyn Road Elementary are among 454 Illinois schools receiving the award. The schools honored all sustained high academic performances over the past three years. According to the Illinois State Board of Education, schools who receive the Academic Excellence Award must have at least 90 percent of elementary and middle students meeting or exceeding state standards in reading and math for three straight years. …
