Area Residents Sound Off on Jewel Cart Policy

Do you think it should be mandatory for Jewel-Osco employees to follow you — and your cart — out to your vehicle? Let us know in the comments section.

Residents sounded off recently on a new policy at Jewel-Osco, which required its employees to follow customers — and their carts — out to their vehicles.  The service was once mandatory, according to couponsinthenews.com, and whether you wanted the help or not, your bagger was expected to follow you out to your vehicle.  "We understand that this is a very different service and it might take our customers some time to understand that we want this to be the norm," said a Jewel customer service representative last month.  Jewel has since issued a statement that acknowledges the company has received strong feedback and indicates that the service is now optional, according to a release on the company's website.  "And, if you don’t want or …

Is Jewel-Osco's Mandatory Cart-to-Car Service Too Much?

Whether you want them to or not, Jewel-Osco has implemented a new policy of following shoppers, and their carts, out to their vehicles. What do Patch readers think?

If you haven't shopped at your local Jewel-Osco grocery store in a while, be prepared for a new customer service initiative that you may, or may not, appreciate. It's called the "cart-to-car" service, according to couponsinthenews.com, and whether you want the help or not, your bagger is expected to follow you and your cart out to your vehicle. The service is mandatory, though Jewel-Osco denies it has anyting to do with keeping track of shopping carts, according to Coupons in the News. "We understand that this is a very different service and it might take our customers some time to understand that we want this to be the norm," said a Jewel customer service representative in the article. It was announced in January that Jewel-Osco stores …

8.^ It is a new policy. They are not going to remember to ask every single person. They will forget a person or two. 9. I shop around. Not just jewel or aldi. Sometimes target or costo. Everyone does. They are trying to compete. Duh, thus the new stuff. Thus the price drop and new promotions. They can't just drop all the prices in one day. It takes time. Relax. It will get there. Hell seen the …   more ›

Lake Zurich/Barrington Area Magnet for Grocery Stores

In the Lake Zurich/Barrington/Kildeer area, there are about a dozen grocery options.

The Lake Zurich area, particularly the Rte. 12 corridor, seems to be somewhat of a mecca for grocery stores. Between Lake Zurich and Kildeer, the area currently has five stand-alone grocers—Fresh Market, Jewel-Osco, Dominick’s Finer Foods, Aldi's, and Trader Joes. There are two more in Barrington, Jewel-Osco and Heinen's Fine Foods, bringing the total to seven.  There are two more on the way—Whole Foods and Mariano’s Fresh Market—as well as talk of a third--Woodmans.  That’s not even counting retailers that offer large grocery sections, like Walmart, Target and Costco. Lake Zurich also has Ania's Polish Deli which is much more than a deli, actually a specialty European market.  That totals to about a dozen different places to buy groceries…

Caribou Coffee Coming to Barrington's Jewel-Osco

The coffee chain will be located in the front of the grocery store.

Jewel-Osco customers will soon have another reason to shop at the local grocer. Caribou Coffee is moving in. The national coffee retailer will be occupying a kiosk in the store near the new bakery section. The Barrington Jewel-Osco is one of only three stores in the Chicago area where the coffee chain is testing kiosk stores. Caribou is expected to open inside of Jewel-Osco in the next 30 to 60 days. “It will be good for the community to have more options,” Economic and Community Development Director Peg Blanchard said. “It’s great to keep sales dollars in the community instead of having people go elsewhere,” she said. The Caribou Coffee will have a full seating area with free WiFi for customers to enjoy.   The new Caribou isn’t the only …

Diane N. wins $25,000 in Wish Big Win Big Holiday Giveaway.

Diane N. of Barrington was hoping to win one of the $2 prizes in Jewel-Osco's  “Wish Big Win Big Holiday Giveaway.” She did better than that. Diane won a $25,000 vehicle, but opted to take the cash. Diane received the check at the Barrington Jewel, today.  Diane said she thought the game was difficult to play, but she was glad she stuck with it. "I found out on New Years Day.
