What can the village do? If it is their fault that you flooded, then they should help. Otherwise, I'm not sure why they should pay for Waste Management to pick up your garbage. This begs the question - Do you have flood insurance? Sadly, most people do not realize that they have no coverage if they flood. Most of Grayslake is not in a flood plain, so you can get federal flood insurance through …   more ›

Share Your Lake County Flood Photos on Patch

How crazy is it out there right now? Please show us! Upload your pictures of flooding from Lake County towns here.

What does the scene look like for you? Are there several feet of water outside your home (or, heaven forbid, inside it)? Stranded cars; flooded lawns and streets? If you’re lucky enough not to be too busy dealing with any emergencies right now (and we hope you are), we’d love to see what you see, and our readership likely would as well.  If you have any great snapshots/photographs of the flooding around Lake County today, please share them with us and with your fellow readers. (Please put a detailed caption on it so that we know where it’s from!) And feel free to share your stories in the comments.  You can upload photos and video by using the “Upload Photos and Video” link above. Thanks in advance for sharing! Please stay safe!

Video: History of Lake County Roads

This year the Lake County Division of Transportation is celebrating 100 years of service to Lake County.

In this video from LCTV, learn how a transportation system that started as dirt roads has become an impressive network of safe and efficient roadways, intersections, roundabouts and bike paths. Prior to 1913, most of the roads in Illinois were dirt roads and inclement weather made them nearly impossible to navigate. Because of this, a movement arose to "get Illinois out of the mud," according to the Lake County Division of Transportation. At that time, roads within the state of Illinois were the responsibility of the individual townships. Under the Tice Act of 1913, the responsibility for building the road system shifted from the township to the county, under the direction of a county superintendent of highways. LCDOT will be adding …

Comparably speaking, during last November's presidential election, 71.18 percent of registered voters made it to the polls in Lake County.  Other counties also …

Area Road Projects Announced

Lake County announces record 2013 highway construction program.

Construction will begin on 32 highway improvements in Lake County this year, totaling an investment of $126 million. This is the Lake County Division of Transportation's (DOT) largest annual highway construction program ever, and is almost three times the size of the biggest previous construction program undertaken by the county. The Lake County Board made a commitment to invest 100 percent of the revenue from the 1/4 percent sales tax for transportation and public safety funds approved in 2008 by the State of Illinois toward improving transportation. These projects are now being realized as a result of those funds. "The county board knows that transportation is one of the most important issues for residents and that is why we have made it…
