Lake County announces record 2013 highway construction program.

Construction will begin on 32 highway improvements in Lake County this year, totaling an investment of $126 million. This is the Lake County Division of Transportation's (DOT) largest annual highway construction program ever, and is almost three times the size of the biggest previous construction program undertaken by the county. The Lake County Board made a commitment to invest 100 percent of the revenue from the 1/4 percent sales tax for transportation and public safety funds approved in 2008 by the State of Illinois toward improving transportation. Today, the Lake County Board elected Aaron Lawlor as its chairman and Carol Calabresa (District 15, Libertyville) as its vice-chair. Lawlor, 30, was also sworn into his third term representing District 18, which includes all of Vernon Hills and Indian Creek as well as portions of Hawthorn Woods, Long Grove and unincorporated Lake County. As he took over the gavel, Lawlor stated, "there is a lot of change among this board today, but our priorities remain the same. The Barrington 220 Board of Education expressed gratitude to Nick Sauer, who has served on the board since his election in the spring of 2009. Sauer resigned his seat on the Board of Education effective Nov. 14 following his successful election to the Lake County Board of Commissioners, serving District 17. President Brian Battle and his board colleagues commended Sauer for his dedicated representation of students, staff and residents during his productive tenure in Barrington 220. The Lake County Board Tuesday (October 9, 2012) passed a resolution by a vote of 23 to 0 to approve a plan for a potential shopping center, local community activity center and offices on the controversial 108.75 acres of land known as the Dimucci Family Property at Rand and Old McHenry roads. After numerous public hearings, a new intergovernmental agreement, and numerous limiting conditions, the Lake County Zoning Board of Appeals forwards a recommendation for rezoning and a PUD.
At Thursday's final ZBA public hearing on the request by the Dimucci family for rezoning to commercial and a planned unit development (PUD) for their property at Old McHenry Road and Route 12, the ZBA voted unanimously in favor of forwarding a favorable recommendation to the County Board. Between the Lake County Regional Planning Commission (RPC) and the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA), peitioners, Lake County staff and objectors attended some 37 hours of public hearings. A Barrington-area Lake County Board member has decided not to seek re-election in 2012. Lake Barrington resident Stevenson Mountsier has served the county representing District 17 since 1996. “I feel its time for a new generation of Republican leaders to engage and serve their local government,” Mountsier said. After his term ends in 2012, Mountsier will stay in Lake Barrington with his family, and will continue to work with the Coordinated Transportation Committee and the Barrington Area Conservation Trust Board. After observing all of the street repair projects pending for the Antioch area, there is one very noticeably absent problem street: Grimm Road.
