Are you a local Boy Scout looking to earn his Traffic Safety Merit Badge? The Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) and Lake County Sheriff's Office is here to help. See attached PDF for details. The merit badge program will take place 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, May 11, at the LCDOT facility at 600 W. Winchester Rd., in Libertyville. Hart Road to be resurfaced and made safer for bicyclists and pedestrians.
In the coming weeks, the Lake County Division of Transportation will be out in the Lake Zurich, Barrington, Wauconda area resurfacing and improving several county roadways. Lake County Dist. 17 Rep. Nick Sauer asks that residents spread the news about these upcoming projects and the benefit their improved condition will have for the area. Sauer suggests residents plan ahead for these projects. The projects currently planned for construction/repaving in this area include: Miller Road Work to correct a chronic road flooding problem will take place this year with Lake County DOT elevating Miller Road and constructing a three span bridge just east of IL Route 59. This year the Lake County Division of Transportation is celebrating 100 years of service to Lake County.
In this video from LCTV, learn how a transportation system that started as dirt roads has become an impressive network of safe and efficient roadways, intersections, roundabouts and bike paths. Prior to 1913, most of the roads in Illinois were dirt roads and inclement weather made them nearly impossible to navigate. Because of this, a movement arose to "get Illinois out of the mud," according to the Lake County Division of Transportation. At that time, roads within the state of Illinois were the responsibility of the individual townships. Quentin and Old McHenry Roads Resurfacing This project is an asphalt surface removal and replacement initiative and areas with a 2' asphalt paved shoulder will be widened to provide a bike-friendly 4' asphalt shoulder. This project began in the fall of 2012 and work is scheduled to begin again in April. When work begins, expect daily lane closures using flaggers and one lane traffic control. Lake County announces record 2013 highway construction program.

Construction will begin on 32 highway improvements in Lake County this year, totaling an investment of $126 million. This is the Lake County Division of Transportation's (DOT) largest annual highway construction program ever, and is almost three times the size of the biggest previous construction program undertaken by the county. The Lake County Board made a commitment to invest 100 percent of the revenue from the 1/4 percent sales tax for transportation and public safety funds approved in 2008 by the State of Illinois toward improving transportation. Lake County Division of Transportation updates Lake Zurich community on widening of Quentin Road to four lanes.
Quentin Road has more than 21,000 vehicles traveling on it on an average day, according to a 2009 study, and that number is expected to increase, according to the Lake County Division of Transportation. The county recently held an open house at Lake Zurich High School to gather public input on the widening of Quentin Road from, Rte. 12 to Rte. 22. The county is proposing to widen Quentin Road from two to four lanes, plus a 12-foot median. County transportation officials said the Quentin Road project aims to accomplish three main goals: improve safety, accommodate future traffic increases and enhance bike and pedestrian access, according to the Chicago Tribune. The village of Barrington announced a tentative approval of the plan which will also include a new bike path.
Traffic headaches associated with the Hart Road and Route 14 intersection in Barrington will soon be alleviated, thanks to tentative approval of a new intersection design study. Once final approval is submitted to the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), the project will create dual left turns from northwest-bound Route 14 onto Hart Road, and dual left turn lanes from north-bound Hart Road onto Route 14. “When school lets out or sporting events let out, there’s a tremendous amount of traffic leading out to Route 14,” Greg Summers, Barrington’s Director of Engineering and Building said. “Back-ups can be as long as 15 minutes.” The project has been in the works for many years, and needed approval from Union Pacific, IDOT, Lake …

After observing all of the street repair projects pending for the Antioch area, there is one very noticeably absent problem street: Grimm Road. This road is so full of potholes and black patches in poor condition, it is hardly worth driving on. PLEASE add resurfacing Grimm Road to the list of necessary repair projects! more ›
