Write-in candidate says he will continue battle to make Barrington a better community.

I want to thank everyone who supported me. I am very pleased with the results in spite of the fact that I was kicked off the ballot. The election has furthered my resolve to continue the battle to make Barrington a better community, a safer community, and more transparent. I will do everything in my power to make downtown Barrington a vibrant area. Because of research done for the campaign, I am asking the Village Board to approve a forensic audit for all the financial activity for the Village for the last 10 years. We found so many questionable expenses that we think this is more than an appropriate action and a necessity of good government. I ask my fellow citizens of Barrington to assist with this action. Resident supports Christopher Geier and Jerry Keaton.
We need a change in our Barrington 220 school board. As residents, parents, and taxpayers, I’d like to know that our input is valued. It doesn’t appear to be. Requesting community input, our Barrington 220 Board of Education conducted a survey in 2012. The questions related to issues the community would most prefer regarding several topics. The results- 57% of staff and parents requested the implementation of an all day kindergarten program. Down the list, was realigning the school calendar to allow the high school students to take first semester finals before Christmas break instead if in mid-January. 40% chose this issue as most important. Results are here-http://www.barrington220.org/domain/2367 The district created a panel …

I recently received a call from Wayne Wnek, the Ela Tax Reform Party candidates for Assessor. While I was already inclined to support John Barrington, this call cemented my position. At the start, Wnek repeated the talking point that his slate has been pushing since day one: that they would refund $2 million of the $2.2 million surplus to Ela Township taxpayers. Of course that sounds great…who wouldn’t want a tax refund? But, as in all things, the devil is in the details. So I asked him what we would do if we were faced with an unexpected expenditure, like a weather disaster or another economic downtown. His response: they would borrow to cover the expenditures. So the Ela Tax Reform Party wants to clean out the township’s reserves and …

"Make your vote count."
Greetings! I wanted to take a moment and thank you for believing in me as your Village Trustee. It's been a great 8 years in public office and believe me, very educational! My decision to not run again was 100% personal and I believe it is at a time when the village has a positive momentum and good people stepping in to continue the work. To that point, I have had the privilege of working with a board and Village President that I was proud to be a part. I am personally endorsing the three Trustee candidates that are uncontested and President Darch. President Darch has worked tirelessly to watch out for our community's well being and has been the driving force behind the changes that have been made to encourage business growth in very …

In a Letter to the Editor, Grayslake resident and attorney Jerry Novak writes that he feels the Newtown, Conn. school shooting was not the result of a lack of gun control, but a failure to recognize and treat mental illness.

Well by now I'm sure all of you are aware of the tragic school shooting in Connecticut. Its terrible. 27 lives lost. Why? Because of military "assault style weapons?" Because of high capacity magazines? Because guns are too easily obtained? Because we live in a "gun culture?" No. None of those reasons. Twenty-seven lives were lost because we as a population failed to recognize mental illness. We failed to recognize that some young man needed help. Help that he wasn't able to ask for. We failed to recognize his silent cries for help and we failed to help him deal with the terrible silent disease of mental illness. The disease won and we all lost. We lost our sense of safety for our children in school. We lost our ability to reason. And many…

I’ve been honored and humbled to be your Lake County Circuit Clerk for the last 8 terms, but in 2011 I made the decision not to run again and instead retire at the end of this term. Since the first day I took office we’ve worked under a certain philosophy: do more with less, stay within our budget, and make customer service a priority. I could not have asked for a more perfect opportunity in a more perfect job, and I have the people of Lake County to thank for allowing me to work in public service to the best of my ability for so long. Shortly after the last election I hired a bright young man, Keith Brin, to be my Chief Deputy. As an attorney, Keith brought in a different perspective, and with it, additional creativity and innovation. …

Barrington Patch accepts letters to the editor submitted by email to Editor Morgan Delack at morgan@patch.com. Please write "letter to the editor" in the subject line of your email. As a physician, I would like to make you aware of the Independent Payment Advisory Board, or IPAB, a key element in President Obama’s federal takeover of medicine. IPAB is a board consisting of 15 unelected, appointed bureaucrats whose task it is to cut the growth of Medicare spending, and the cuts they are mandated to make will be deep. The decisions IPAB makes behind closed doors can only be overturned by a supermajority of Congress, something almost impossible to achieve. So the politicians have set up a system where they can say to seniors “it was those …

Barrington Patch accepts and publishes Letters to the Editor sent to Editor Morgan Delack by email at morgan@patch.com. Please note in the subject that this is a Letter to the Editor. My wife and I have known Chris Kennedy for more than ten years. Besides being a steady friend, we're impressed by Chris's ability to manage times of adversity with both energy and good judgment. Chris Kennedy hopes to replace the Lake County State's Attorney in the November election. I think he is greatly qualified to do so. Because of a series of very poor decisions, the Lake County State's Attorney has become the target of some unflattering national media attention. These poor decisions have resulted in costly lawsuits against the State's Attorney …

Barrington Patch accepts and publishes letters to the editor emailed to Local Editor Morgan Delack at morgan@patch.comPlease note in subject line the message is a Letter to the Editor. The choice is ours in the newly formed 6th Congressional District. The Republican incumbent, Peter Roskam, always votes the party line. Leslie Coolidge, the Democratic challenger, has moderate views and is not afraid to express what she sees as great potential for this country. Peter Roskam voted to cut hundreds of jobs at Fermilab in our area, and voted for tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas. Leslie Coolidge supports targeted incentives and job skill training that will help create quality jobs in Illinois. Peter Roskam voted 33 times to …

Thanks Melissa! I recall Penny speaking at the candidates' forum how the board is very "forward thinking" and anticipates future needs before many other districts and prepares for them beforehand. So, if Penny is pointing out this legislature (link was right on, thanks), and it is right on target with community and staff desires, why, oh why, is it not the focus if i220? Well, I think I answered …   more ›
