Cub Scouts Help Make a Difference

The scouts helped Citizens for Conservation as part of Make a Difference Day.

Cub Scouts from local Pack 288 joined a record number of volunteers of all ages at Citizens for Conservation’s Make a Difference Day on October 27. Cub Scouts helped collect the soft, fuzzy seeds of prairie clover, the downy and fluffy seeds of little bluestem, and the plume-like feathery seed heads of Indian grass. Upon returning from seed collecting, the scouts visited CFC's seed room where all the collected seeds are drying and awaiting cleaning before sowing. The scouts were in awe of how different each seed looked in appearance and were amazed at the amount of seed collected by CFC volunteers. Each scout and his caregiver then joined the many other workday volunteers to enjoy CFC’s volunteer appreciation cook-out where burgers, hot …

Pet Food Donations Accepted for Make a Difference Day

The South Barrington Park District and the Hoffman Estates Animal Hospital are collaborating to collect food for Young at Heart Pet Rescue.

  The South Barrington Park District and the Hoffman Estates Animal Hospital will make a difference this week by collecting pet food for Young at Heart Pet Rescue in honor of Make a Difference Day. The fourth Saturday in October, this year Oct. 27, marks a national day of volunteering. Originally created by USA Weekend Magazine, the holiday brings millions of community members around the country together to perform works of service.
