The McHenry County Sheriff's Office has created a Heroin Education, Enforcement Action Task Force aimed at dealing with the heroin problem. The task force, "HEAT," was formed to gather data and collaborate with the McHenry County Coroner's office, State's Attorney office, area police departments, regional superintendant of schools and health service providers to gain their input and provide recommendations to law enforcement. Undersheriff Andrew Zinke will serve as chairman of the new force, Sheriff Keith Nygren said in a press release. Woodstock Elderly Woman Charged In Fatal Hit-And-Run An 83-year-old Woostock woman turned herself into McHenry County Sheriff police on Thursday afternoon after she said she unknowingly hit and killed 6-year-old Brayan Silva near Union on Sept. 8. Woodstock Man Charged In Deadly Street Race McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Woodstock man in connection with a fatal traffic crash that killed two 16-year-old boys on July 1. Dan L. Huber is charged with failure to report a traffic crash, a Class 1 felony and aggravated street racing, a Class 4 felony, according to a sheriff’s department release. His bond was set at $100,000. Northbrook Two Crushed In Train Derailment A Glenview couple was crushed to death after a train hauling coal derailed and collapsed a bridge in Northbrook. Video shot by witnesses in the aftermath of the incident is attached to this story. Police are searching properties north of Crystal Lake.
Police are searching properties Wednesday morning in Bull Valley after the skeletal remains of two humans were found Tuesday. The properties being searched are located in the 1500 block of Cherry Valley Road in Bull Valley. The McHenry County Sheriff's Office are on the scene with Bull Valley Police, along with several other agencies, looking for clues after the remains were found. Authorities are saying that more information will be available after the search is finished. An officer would not comment on what the agencies were specifically searching for. Victim pronounced dead at Northern Illinois Medical Center.
One person is dead after a McHenry County man was arrested for recklessly discharging a firearm. Maxwell T. Cannon, 21, of 1245 Club Road in Woodstock was charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless discharge of a firearm after McHenry County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a reported accidental shooting at 1901 Woodlawn Park Avenue in unicorporated McHenry County. According to the sheriff's office, through information gathered from witnesses and evidence obtained at the scene, it was determined that Cannon discharged a handgun causing serious injury to the adult male victim. The victim was transported to Northern Illinois Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Cannon's bond was set at $30,000 and he was given a Jan. 6 court …

A Harvard couple were arrested Nov. 8 for mistreating their horses. John F. Lekich, 55, and Carla Pruitt Lekich, 55, both of Harvard were charged with five counts of Cruel Treatment of five horses that were severely underweight; five counts of Violation of Owner’s Duties for failure to provide veterinary care when needed to prevent suffering; 15 counts of Violation of Owner’s Duties for failure to provide sufficient quantity of good quality, wholesome food and water; and 15 counts of Violation of Owner’s Duties for failure to provide adequate shelter and protection from the weather. A man who disappeared from the Chicago area more than 32 years ago and was living in Las Vegas has pleaded guilty to a felony identity fraud charge. Arthur Gerald Jones, 73, was declared legally dead 25 years ago after leaving a wife and three children in Highland Park. The McHenry County Appellate Court has ordered the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office to re-hire a deputy who was fired three years ago.
