Obituary: Albert John Fritz, Inventor of Schwinn Stingray

Fritz passed away May 7.

  Born October 8, 1924, Albert John Fritz passed away May 7, 2013 in Barrington, surrounded by his loving family. Albert graduated from eighth grade and went to stenography school, hoping to become a court reporter. During World War II, he served on Gen. Douglas MacArthur's staff in the Philippines, where he was wounded. After the war, he signed on at Schwinn, the booming bicycle company whose factories and offices dominated his old neighborhood. He stayed for 40 years, rising from the factory floor to the top ranks of management. When, early in his career, Fritz heard that Frank W. We didn't have everything growing up but my parents made sure that we all rode Schwinn bikes. The Stingray and Fairlady were the hottest bikes on the block in the early 70's. :) Just got rid of it a few years ago.   more ›

Obituary: Robert C. Bedford

Born June 25, 1925 in Chicago, Robert C. Bedford of Barrington passed away April 23, 2013 in Des Plaines.  Beloved husband of the late Eileen (nee McSweeney), loving father of Patrice Bedford, Chris (Mary) Bedford, and Paul (Emily) Bedford, dear grandfather of Julie (Jonathan) Byars, and Brian, Megan, Blake, and Brooke Bedford.  He was preceded in death by his wife Eileen and parents.  Visitation will be 9am until the time of the funeral mass at 11am, Saturday, April 27 at St. Anne Catholic Church, 120 N. Obituary: Nicholas Wardrip, 16

The Barrington High School student passed away unexpectedly last week.

Nicholas “Nick” James Wardrip, (16), of Barrington, passed away suddenly, April 12, 2013. He was born January 5, 1997 in Barrington to Russell and Camille Wardrip.  Nicholas was a sophomore honor student at Barrington High School. He was a Life Boy Scout with Troop 21 of Barrington, where he was working towards his Eagle Scout award. He enjoyed playing his bass, video games, Boy Scout outings, camping and music. Obituary: Walter Dorzweiler, 85

  Walter T. Dorzweiler, 85, of Barrington passed away peacefully on April 4, 2013. He was born May 17, 1927 in Menasha, Wisconsin to Alois and Rose (nee Walters) Dorzweiler. On October 17, 1954 he married Doris Williams.  Walter was honorably discharged from the Army as a 2nd Lieutenant after 3 years of service. After spending 4 years at the University of Wisconsin, he was with Kimberly-Clark for 15 years in sales. He then owned Lawn Equipment Distributers of Barrington for 15 years. Following this he remained in sales in the packaging industry. Longtime Catchpenny Volunteer Dies

Leona A. Gaspar passed away April 3.

  Born October 22, 1942 in Chicago to Leonard and Caroline Bloniarz, Leona A. Gaspar passed away peacefully April 3, 2013 in Winfield.  Leona volunteered at Catchpenny in Barrington for over 20 years. Leona is survived by her children Ricky (Julie) Braet, Melissa (Ken) Woltz Jr., and Maurice Braet, grandchildren; Kenny III, Kiki, and Carter Woltz, and Natalie and Tye Braet, sister Kathleen (Alphonse) Serpico, and brother John (Patricia) Bloniarz.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, George (2011), and her parents. Influential Film Critic, Roger Ebert, Dies

After a long battle with cancer, Ebert died Thursday, according to media reports.

  Roger Ebert, the popular film critic who could weigh  a movie's fate with a thumbs up or thumbs down, has died at age 70, according to media reports.  The Chicago Sun-Times, the publication where Ebert reviewed movies for 46 years, reports Ebert died Thursday in Chicago following a long battle with cancer. Referring to Ebert as the nation's most influential and prominent film critic, the Sun-Times writes of Ebert's decades with the newspaper and also about the 31 years he spent reviewing movies on T.V. In a Sun-Times blog post on Tuesday, Ebert wrote he would be taking a "leave of presence" to deal with his health issues.  The "painful fracture" that made it difficult for me to walk has recently been revealed to be a cancer," Ebert wrote…

DeWitz was a well-loved member of the Barrington community. He passed away March 28.

  Edward Freidrich DeWitz, 91, of Barrington, passed away, March 28, 2013, at home. He was born on November 21, 1921, to Paul Freidrich and Elizabeth DeWitz in Elgin. Ed is survived by his sister, Fran Periman; brother, Roy (Barbara) DeWitz; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Held for Rob Komosa Saturday

Komosa, a graduate of Rolling Meadows High School lived 13 years after becoming paralyzed. Family and friends paid their respects at St. Thomas Becket Parish in Mount Prospect, ABC 7 Chicago reports.

The life of Rob Komosa, a former Rolling Meadows High School student who was paralyzed in 1999 after sustaining and injury during football practice, was honored and remembered on Saturday at St. Thomas Becket Parish in Mount Prospect, ABC 7 Chicago reports.  Family and friends came to pay their respects to Komosa according to ABC7, who co-founded the Gridiron Alliance to help other athletes who suffer debilitating injuries. He died on March 16 in his Barrington Hills home from suspected respiratory failure, MSN News reports.

Former Football Player Paralyzed in 1999 Dies

Robert Komosa, 30, died at his home in Barrington Hills over the weekend.

  A former Rolling Meadows High School football player who was paralyzed during a practice in 1999 has died at the age of 30, according to a Chicago Tribune article.  Robert Komosa died Saturday evening at his home in Barrington Hills, according to the article. As a junior at Rolling Meadows High School, Komosa suffered serious head injuries during a football practice, was paralyzed from the neck down and needed to use "a ventilator to help him breathe" following the injuries, according to the Chicago Tribune.    .
