The U.S. Postal Service announced it will end Saturday mail delivery by Aug. 1. Speak out: How will this affect you?
Calling the six-days-per-week mail delivery business model “no longer sustainable,” the U.S. Postal Service Wednesday morning announced it will eliminate Saturday delivery of mail by Aug. 1. The plan to change delivery from six days a week to five would only affect first-class mail. Packages, mail-order medicines, priority and express mail would still be delivered on Saturdays. The Barrington Post Offices located at 106 Barrington Commons and 1515 South Grove Avenue will remain open on Saturdays. The cost to mail one ounce letter and postcards has increased starting today.
Prices at the post office are higher than ever. Beginning today, the cost to mail a one ounce letter has increased to 46 cents a stamp. That’s up from 45 cents in 2012. Mailing a postcard also costs one penny more at 33 cents. The same increase was imposed in 2012. It will cost more to mail postcards and one ounce letters come Jan. 27, 2013.
Get ready to pay more at the post office next year. The cost to mail a one ounce letter will increase to 46 cents a stamp on Jan. 27. That’s up from 45 cents in 2012. Mailing a postcard will also cost one penny more at 33 cents. The same increase was imposed in 2012.
