Road Runner Sports Opens in Kildeer

Store aims to offer wide selection of running shoes and sports gear brands at discount prices.

  Road Runner Sports opened in Kildeer Marketplace last week, along with Whole Foods and Krisers All Natural Pet Food.  Road Runner Sports was started in 1983, by Michael Gotfredson, in Del Mar, CA, with a goal to provide sports minded people with an alternative; the ability to buy quality fitness products at great prices, according to the Road Runner Sports website.  Road Runner, Kildeer, will hold grand opening events on March 22-23.  Road Runner offers VIP discounts and a 90-day test run. Technical Glitch Halts Chicago Marathon Registration

Registration for the 36th annual Bank of America Chicago Marathon is open to the first 45,000 entrants. Will Barrington residents be among them?

  For running enthusiasts hoping to register for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon this week, technical difficulties have temporarily halted runner registration.  Registration opened Tuesday for the 26.2-mile race, which begins and ends in Grant Park, but ended shortly after due to errors with the online registration process. "We have been working nonstop with our registration provider to find the root of the problem and a solution. Many runners were able to sign up before the registration process was suspended. There are currently 15,000 entries remaining. Before we re-open registration, we need to make sure all technical issues are permanently resolved. Elementary School Kids Prepare to 'Run for Relay'

Arnett C. Lines Elementary School kids will participate in a 5K or 1 mile run to benefit Relay for Life.

  The kids of “Lines on the Run”, a children’s running club at Arnett C. Lines Elementary School will participate in a special run called “Run for Relay” to help raise money for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event. The run will be held on the campus of Arnett C. Lines elementary on Wednesday, May 23 at 3:30 p.m. and will include one, two and three mile course options. All of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the American Cancer Society. The Midwest Bone & Joint Institute of Barrington is the sponsor of the running club and the event as part of the practice’s initiative to teach children about the important role nutrition and exercise play in building strong bones and avoiding childhood fractures. New Running and Fitness Store to Open in Barrington

Barrington Running Company and Triad Multisport and Fitness will open on Park Avenue this summer.

As you drive by the store at 133 Park Ave., a banner proudly waves in the wind announcing the location’s future tenants. You can hear owners Mark and Leanne Konicek’s smiles over the phone when the husband-and-wife team talk about opening their two businesses under one roof: Barrington Running Company and Triad Multisport and Fitness. The couple is selling the location as a one-stop shop for the endurance athlete. “We don’t just want this to be a store. We want it to be a place where runners gather.
