The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory until 11 a.m.
Is Mother Nature playing a trick on us? Today is March 18, and we have yet another Winter Weather Advisory in effect. The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued the warning until 11 a.m. Snow, sleet and freezing rain are expected with up to an inch of accumulation possible. Heavy sleet could fall through mid-morning creating slick road conditions for drivers heading to work. According to Accuweather.com, the high temperature in Barrington today is 38 degrees with a “real feel” of 28. The low is 16 degrees with a “real feel” of -6. What's the highest temperature we'll see this week?
It's tough to imagine that a year ago today, the temperature was in the 80s. I don't know about you, but to me, it seems like it's never going to get warm! Don't expect any warm weather this week. The highest forecast temperature is 40 degrees—with partly sunny skies—on Sunday. The week is forecast to start out with another blast of winter. The National Weather Service in Chicago says there's a chance of freezing rain and snow, possibly mixed with sleet, on Monday morning. Snow could then fall during the afternoon hours, followed by a slight chance of rain and snow after 4 p.m. There's a 90 percent chance of precipitation, with 1 to 2 inches of snow and sleet accumulation possible. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are expected to be cold, …

Were you satisfied with the village's services? Or do you think there's room for improvement?
This week's snow storm has been dubbed as the "biggest blizzard since 2011." Some 1,200 flights were canceled at O'Hare and Midway airports and Tuesday's rush hour was anything but delightful. O'Hare airport saw about 9 inches of snow on Tuesday. The Barrington-area saw about 6 to 7 inches of that evil white stuff known as "snow." What were your impressions of the village's snow removal services? Post a comment below or share a story (maybe your neighbor didn't move his car!). To vote or comment you must be signed in.

Winter Storm Saturn was expected to dump 6-10 inches of snow across northern Illinois.
Update, 11:20 p.m.: Here's a look at more snowfall totals. Editor's Note: I wanted to note that not all towns have totals on the National Weather Service website. The National Weather Service relies on snowfall reports (emailed, phoned in or via Facebook) from residents and observers. So, sadly, I can only provide totals for the Patch communities included in the reports they've received. I often include other non-Patch communities just to offer a look at other regional totals. Did you measure the snowfall at your house? Share your totals in the comment section! ---------------- Update, 7:04 p.m.: Check out the latest snowfall totals as reported to the National Weather Service in Chicago. I'll provide another update around 11 p.m…

Snow blowers are extremely helpful after a big storm, but they can also be very noisy. How late is too late and how early is too early to use the machines?
Get ready for more snow! Another winter storm is expected to dump 6-9 inches of snow on the Barrington area from 3 a.m. to midnight Tuesday. With snowfalls averaging 1.5 inches per hour, residents will likely have their snow blowers revved up and ready to go. Patch wants to know: How late is too late to snow blow your property and how early is too early? We posed the “snow blower etiquette” question to our Facebook fans during last week’s snow storm and here’s what residents had to say. (Comments have been slightly edited for grammar and clarity): “It depends if it’s the weekend!” “I honestly think no earlier than 8 a.m. on weekends…7:30 a.m. start time is ok during the week. And no later than 11 p.m. any day.” “If you get a big snow …

Take advantage of the snow at one of these local sledding hills.
Finally, we have snow! Some people have been waiting months for these conditions. Take advantage of our recent snowfall at one of these locations. The National Safety Council Tips for Safer Sledding and Tobogganing gives tips for sledding safely. The correct position for sledding is to lie on your back, or sit on the sled, with your feet facing down the hill. Sledding head first increases the risk of injury. Check out these area sledding hills: Algonquin Braewood Park, 1001 Gaslight Dr., is a popular hill. High Hill Park and Nature Preserve, 501 Kirkland, has nice vistas. Spella Park, 2610 Harnish Drive, has great views, a fast hill, lights and a warming element. Buffalo Grove Willow Stream Park, 600 Farrington Road, offers an unsupervised…

Up to 10 inches of snow could fall across the area.
It looks like Lake and McHenry Counties could see snowfall totals of 6 to 10 inches by Wednesday morning. A winter storm warning is now in effect for both counties until 6 a.m. Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in Chicago. "Snow will significantly slow travel and make it dangerous at times through the early evening commute, so persons planning travel should anticipate extremely elevated travel times," according to the National Weather Service, noting that "temporary white-out conditions with near-zero visibility" are possible. Snowfall amounts in excess of 4 or 5 inches have already been reported across northern Illinois.
