Lil' Kickers Soccer Program Launches in Lake Barrington

The youth sports classes take place at the RecPlex.

  Lil’ Kickers, a nationally renowned youth development soccer program, has launched its Lil’ Kickers program in Lake Barrington at The Lake Barrington RecPlex. Lil’ Kickers is a non-competitive, introductory soccer and movement skills program for boys and girls ages 18 months to nine years and was developed by soccer professionals working along side child development experts. The classes promote play in a physically active, social and non-competitive environment while fostering positive self-esteem and accomplishment. Several Sports Teams End Season With Medals

The final installment, of the multipart series, that looks back on how the 2011 spring season finished for the Broncos and Fillies.

Boys’ Track The Bronco’s 3200 meter relay team was off and running to start the season, and they didn’t stop until they reached the podium to collect their silver medal at the IHSA state meet held at Eastern Illinois University.  Double state qualifier junior Eric Peterson (also ran the 1600 meter run but failed to advance to the finals) and senior Eric Schneider (ran the 4 x 400 relay with teammates senior Terrence Thomas, Tim Jaderholm and Dale Jno-Baptiste that also failed to qualify for the finals 3:20.47) took home the silver medal with seniors Karl Eiring and Pat Managan in the 4 x 800 with a record time for Barrington (7:44.87).  The relay team had sliced off more than four seconds from their preliminary run but couldn’t out race …

Fremd Sneaks By Barrington In Super-Sectional

Lady Vikes headed to state semifinals after early lead holds up for 2-1 victory over Barrington.

The Barrington Fillies soccer team suffered a tough loss to the Fremd Lady Vikings, losing 2-1 in the Super-Sectional match. Recollections of Fremd’s second-place finish in the 2009 state finals helped spur the Lady Vikes on this year’s playoff run. “We knew how fun it was back then and how great it was to get (to the state finals),” junior Emily Basten said after Fremd's victory. “This is for the seniors; it’s all for them.” Basten, a defender on the 2009 squad too, felt that this super-sectional matchup at host site Barrington was about making sure seniors Kristin Abruscato, Jennifer Freeman, Elise Kotsakis and Alexis Tice were able to relive that glory felt two years prior, which coincidentally had Fremd playing Barrington at Barrington…

Little Time to Rest for Fillies Soccer

Barrington’s offense sparks late comeback against Lake Zurich in opening round of playoffs.

Despite the Fillies 4-2 dramatic comeback victory over the Lake Zurich Bears in the first round of the IHSA 3A regional, Barrington’s coach Ryan Stengren didn’t give his team long to enjoy the win. “Our next game starts now,” Stengren said moments after Barrington’s intense win.  “I’m really just focused on their recovery and us getting to the next game.” The Fillies, who are hosting the regional, saw themselves down early in their match after Lake Zurich’s senior midfielder Brooke Sill scored on a nice volley from senior forward Gina McCoy.  The shot was just out of the reach of Barrington’s goalkeeper Kelly Pedersen but enough to give the Bears a 1-0 lead. “Anytime we can put the ball in the back of the net and gain that momentum, we …
